'F-22 Bomb Release (Official Lockheed Photo)'

saw the f22 display at RIAT yesterday, part from being LOUD i can see why people like it ... its still butt ugly though :icon_lol:

that doesn't sound very accurate to me. that's a 50% chance of being within 25'

The accuracy is on par with the typical 500 pound JDAM. Twenty-five feet is pretty accurate for a bomb.

The main two things the SDB brings to the plate is lower yeild so it can be used in urban areas with less collateral damage effects, plus the wings allow it to glide for a very long distance, which is still classified, but safe to say a hell of a lot further than a JDAM or LGB used today.

Must be in the eye of the beholder! I've always thought it looked great on the ground and in the air!

I know for a fact the pilots flying it love it!

I really don't see where all the hate comes from regarding the F-22 and F-35. I think they are both gorgeous planes.

i just figured if we could put missiles right down gadaffi's chimney way back when, then by now our accuracy must be pretty stellar.

The media are fed a lot of BS about weapons capability from time to time, coincides with funding rounds generally.

The GBU-39 programme has been set a goal of 10ft CEP using ground-based GPS.
With a blast radius of only 25ft it is better suited to the present conflict environment as Ken has pointed out.
It has a potential glide range of 60nm using its popout wings.
Its party piece is it can shed them along the way if a bit more kinetic energy is needed, and then can punch through 5 ft of reinforced concrete. This is usually 2,000lb bomb territory (which tends to flatten the neighbourhood and cause much "collateral" damage).

Best of all, it can also be carried on the outer stations of the F-15E Strike Eagle.
