F1 rule changes to start this season; overhaul for 2017

The full list of measures outlined by the FIA is as follows: "Increased restrictions on driver aids and coaching received unanimous support and will be rapidly implemented, starting from this year's Belgian Grand Prix - with a particular emphasis on race starts - and in 2016. These measures will bring back the driver in full control of the car, enhancing races excitement and unpredictability.

It might be heading in the right direction but this one line needs to be re-written!
"A new set of regulations aimed at achieving faster and more aggressive looking cars for 2017, to include wider cars and wheels, new wings and floor shape and significantly increased aerodynamic downforce has been outlined and is currently being assessed by the teams."
Less is far better and would certainly make things more 'exciting!'.

Less downforce would indeed make races more exciting, but the cars would be slower.

Today's F1s are barely faster than GP2 cars. If you reduced aerodynamic downforce, F1 would become slower than GP2, and this is not what anybody want to see.

1. Make front and rear wings a single blade of specific size, which can be adjusted by the driver, at will.
2. Ban all winglets, barge boards and diffusers.
3. Make the engines 1000bhp.
4. Go back to the tyre sizes of the 1970s/1980s
5. Make tyres durable to last a whole race.
6. Ban the need for pit stops to change the grade of tyre. Allow teams to select whichever tyre grade they wish, including mix and match (as happened in 1980s)
7. Ban DRS.
8. Increase fuel allowance to 175KG, so that drivers can drive flat out for the whole race.
9. Engine or gearbox penalties should relegate the driver to a maximum of back of the grid.
10. No additional time penalties or drive throughs for engine or garbox change.
11. Ban radio communication.
12. Make all pit stops a mandatory 10 second stop.

Ten ways of saving a vanishing formula.

Hey All,

The way to the future is not the past.

We shall see but it does sound encouraging.

You've got my vote here! :applause:
(But we know that in all likelihood, it won't happen)

Hey All,

That is basically a description of F1 in the 80s coupled with the basics of motorcycle racing. Why did F1 depending on how you look at it either abandon that scenario or not fully adopt man and machine against man and machine for an entire race?

This could really destroy the series!
Only a concept but if Bernie sees it we're right in the used food!
