'Failed to initialise the database/Generation of ...' fix!

Hi All,

I've been putting together a lovely neat MTO install and recently started getting this error. Anyway, I had some spare time the other day and spent a bit of time fiddling. I hope by sharing the results it may help others!

A few things to point out:
-I'm aware of the overload patch but have not used it.
-I have removed stock ships and aircraft from my folders, mdlnames etc
-Each of my aircraft has its own panel and sound files.
-I know of the perceived limits of amount of aircraft etc
-I know to delete filelist.dat files etc after making changes

Anyway, the other day I added plane 56 to my install and Ship 50. I go to quick combat and click ''Fly'' and I get the error message ''Failed to Initialise the Database'' followed by ''Generation of Quick Combat Failed''. I close the error and click ''Fly'' a 2nd time and the quick combat mission generates just fine. However I know that this error makes Mission Builder U/S so it was annoying!

I went through the below process:

-Removed the last aircraft and ship added one at a time - Error still received!
-Moved the AIRCRAFT and SHIP folders to my desktop and replaced with those from a stock install - Error goes away!!
-Replaced the custom SHIP folder, emptied the AIRCRAFT folder and proceeded to add back the custom planes 3 at a time. Testing after each 3.
-Upon adding planes 34-36 - Error received!
-Removed 34-36 and add back one at a time, checked each one to ensure they had correct files - Error Received! Regardless of which one I added!

This left me puzzled. A plane and ship limit of 33 and 50 respectively?? Very low considering the high end nature of my PC. (i54690k, 8gb ram, SSD)

I decided to try one thing I had read about ages ago, the Objects dp folder containing too many files having negative effects.

The Solution.....
-Folder contained 1765 files
-Removed enough to bring it to 1595 files
-Retested with plane 34 added - ERROR HAS GONE!
-
Re add remaining planes bringing total to 56 - ERROR HAS GONE!
-A week later,
Upon adding new plane 76 received the error message again
-Deleted 50 more DP's - Error Gone!

Summary
I'm now up to Plane 91 with no more reoccurrence. I think this suggests that there is no hard limit on Planes or Ships and supports the theory that there is some kind of limit in size across several folders in an install. I'll continue experimenting and see if I can hit a hard limit of aircraft that cannot be solved by removing DP files.

Ian,

I can't answer this at work, it will be a very long reply. I will tackle this one during the evening. Perhaps others will get to it first.

Hi Rami,

No help required. I seem to have stumbled upon the answer myself this time and wanted to share it for the benefit of others. As always though, thanks for your readiness to help those of us in need!

(I do have a query re Malta in another thread though!)

:wavey:

I had the same problem recently, and came to the same solution, reducing the number of objects.

The apparent relationship between installed objects and aircraft is interesting. I hadn´t figuerd that out!

Ian,

I can't push the objects_dp limit beyond 1,476. But I do have 100 aircraft in each sim with no problems. I don't use the overload patch.
