Fairchild 24 Series is away!

Hi all, attempting to upload pics of my latest paint!
seems to have worked! On with the next one! Have uploaded this one to Flightsim.com so should be available tomorrow.

cheers, and thanks Bill for such a masterpiece!

I like it! Cool and rugged little aircraft, looks very nice too. With floats, it reminds me a bit of the Norseman.
It seems a bit quiet on the inside, and I felt it was floating a bit high in the water, but that may be an FSX fault, it almost seems to leave the water on the upward bounce..
and most of my cockpits show the wrong registration?

I had been eyeing that Coast Guard aircraft as my first paint, but I'll have to look elsewhere I think, though I still need to finish downloading the paintkit, it is not in a hurry I believe...

Thanks Jankees,

I checked the Registrations myself. I thought I got them all correct. :(

The FSX floats seemed to have an issue. Some of our testers, the floats were right on with depth and water level, but the other half, it appeared to be sitting high on the water. We lowered it a bit, but it didn't help too much for the high floating people. Never did find out why that was happening. Checked weights and they were fine. Has to be something in FSX.

The need for some paint fumes...

A fictional factory ready, all white paint scheme, and a super clean dark metallic blue and white variant.

White has tweed looking cloth on the cabin and seats, all gray and charcoal, and the Blue and White has fine gold pen-striping on the exterior and the brown interior as like the Red Ranger variant.

Some more Aussie repaints. Thought I better post them so others know what is in the pipeline.

The regiatrations are: VH-AZL, VH-BLB and VH-CMB.

finally made the trip and hooked the big rig into the world long enough to d/l and install the Fairchild...

she is very nice - well worth the drive and bother...

the only thing I would change and I hesitate to say it - but - the handhold straps in the cockpit do not need to move...I appreciate the detail - but I can imagine them being stiff enough or tight enough
to their fittings that they would not swing about much..
its a nice detail if it were more fluid movement - but in this state with their somewhat stilted animation (due to my rigs lack of strength ) all they do is remind me or inform me that my FPS are slower than I would like.
And to be honest - I am getting great frame rates - but the strap movement makes it appear otherwise...and they cannot be ignored since they are in constant motion (the way I fly - sorry) and in my lines of sight

I hope these comments do not offend - not my intention

Congrats, Heywood! Glad you got it working.

Yep, as Pat said, the buttons over the straps make them disappear. They looked to be hinged and always appear moving about in photos, so I hinged them. They use the FSX compass animation.

Nice paint schemes, Pat! You are really kicking them out quick!

It seems to be raining in Oz, so you're painting, Pat?

My first attempt, still very much work in progress:

I'll check on the registrations again.

Looking good, Pat. Thanks for the info as I was thinking of doing VH-AZL! I will steer clear of Aussie paints other than the RAAF A36-2 which I have started.

Great choice! I started the Warner version but it is about four down the line to complete. If you are doing the Warner one as well I will shelve mine! BTW the RAF top wing roundel is usually just blue and red, but I guess you already knew that.

of course, what was I thinking? Nearly there:

and VH-ANB has the wrong rego in the cockpit.

Very nice work, guys! Dang...! :applause: :medals:

Just a note, if you have a secondary shading on the cowling (where they shouldn't be one), its for a Warner paint scheme and is where the bulkhead is for the engine. You can delete that shading and chipping there (in the middle of the cowling area, about 1/3rd the way forward) to get rid of that. I think the layer is even called Warner shading.

I had worked out the 'Warner shading' layer but did not notice that the 'new chippies' layer was for the Warner as well! I have now duplicated the layer and erased the line of chippies for the Warner, leaving the Ranger lines intact. I had to do this so that I had the chippies around the doors for the Ranger version! So now I have separate Warner and Ranger layers. Thanks for the wake-up! BTW I found a colour pic of a Brazilian Air Force Ranger F24 so will add that to the list.

Nice repaints!

I have one more heads up on the layers details. Even with cutting the ribs at the tops to make them sharp and make them stand out, they still didn't stand out very well, so I created Ribs layers. The Fuse has one (at least, sometimes 3) that help to 'illuminate' the ribbing structures on the top, sides and belly. Mainly the top and bottom. The sides are so faint, its hard to see them except in the sim. Without them, you cant see that the plane has ribs, even with cut edges in the model, so the graphics really help.

So, you might experiment with the ribs layers, lightning them, darkening them, etc. Because they have shading and darkening on them, you cannot 'lighten them' as they will become super bright all over. So, you can duplicate the layer over a few times to make them more prominent, then adjust Opacity.

Just uploaded some repaints I did the last couple of days.

One factory white Ranger version, all clean, little oil.
One Ranger version White with Blue version, super clean, Walnut instrument panel.
One Warner radial version dark Blue with White trim and gold pinstriping. (Some experimentation with gold 'fancy' pinstriping).

Should be ready to download momentarily. Just hunt for Lionheart and Fairchild and you should find them.

yet another update:
FS537 received a bit more wear and tear:

but of course, it is still around, and beautifully restored by the 'Early Birds' Society on Lelystad, with PH-FAI as registration:

and I started on a radial version, HM181:

an artist? I don't know, but I do like to slap paint on nice models, like this Fairchild

btw, can you get rid of those wheelcovers?
