Fairchild Super 71 Released

Also I'm working on the FDE a bit. Nothing major, just making it to where it will stop on water and behave a bit more smoothly in the pitch axis.. If its OK with PutPut Id be wiling to share that as when when its finished.

Hi, Pam, Be my guest; I'll love to see what you had to do to get it to completely stop.

Best, Paul

Thanks PutPut.. will do. give me a we little time and i should have it up possibly by the end of the week.. Adding water rudders too..
:)

ook, so heres what ive done ( so far ).
Ive never been a fan of the standard empty fsx air file. So, rather than go through and build a complete new airfile ( which could take months ) i smished two of my other airfiles into one file.. The result is a plane that flies very similarly to what you already have. The dfferences are ( on my system ) Pitch isnt quite so abrupt, cruise speed is 125, it takes a bit more throttle to get the plane moving, and although i did hav it where the plane would come to a stop on the water with the engine running, I decided that that wasnt too real, so adjusted it so that at minimum throttle after landing, the plane will slow down to approx 1 knot. Once the engine is stopped at that speed the plane will stop within 20 feet or so.. I've added water rudders as well, with a fifteen degree deflection. That means that if you over control them, they can cause some serious damage, but handled properly you'll get nice smooth turns out of her..
I've set a request out to a friend to see if he will test it for mme, and We'll go from there...

Fairchild S-71 Flight model Update available..

Many thanks to PutPut for allowing me to do this..

This flight model makes changes to several small areas but doesnt get too dramatic. PutPut did a pretty good job to start with.. What it does do though is make the following changes..

Rotation is between 90 - 100 mph
Pitch is smoother, more controllable
The water rudders were moved slightly and are more effective..
Banking is slower, smoother, but more exacting in its response.
Maximum speed is a touch over 140 mph, cruising is at 125.
pontoon contact points have been adjusted for height to achieve a more realistic appearance in the water..
you can coast this bird at 1 knot. It will also stop on water with the engine running ( though i personally like to turn the engine off )

Hope you enjoy it.. its available here http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=4

PS.. I HIGHLY recommend downloading and installing the OzX Grumman Goose Redux not only because its a great plane done by some pretty talented people, but also to take advantage of Gizmo's outstanding wake effects on the fairchild..

Nice job, Pam! Just got a chance to try it this AM and it is a definite improvement over my original. It is a fun plane to fly. That is one of my criteria for deciding on a project; I want to enjoy flying it after I am done. You fly it so much during the design process it can wear out the flight desire.:applause: :applause:

Awesome airplane Paul!

I do have a question though, i think i have seen this airplane before with the cockpit in front of the wings. Was there a few that had that or am i going out the window?

heheh I like PutPuts better too. That second one could almost pass for a weird ford trimotor with only one motor..
Also, I must apologize. The aircraft was able to be ordered with one of four wright wasp engines. I'm afraid that the 585 hp we have in PutPuts is a bit more powerful Than the 520 hp one listed on that page ( see above link ) and the flight performance is obviously somewhat more enhanced over what is listed there as well.. The most powerful engine used was a 610hp wasp, but i couldnt find any information on that engine at all i'm afraid..
I suppose i should go in and set the fuel burn and range to match specs, but wanting to get the flight model to everyone as quickly as possibly, i decided to forgo that part for the moment..

Easy Water Stop

Paul,
Nice model. Didn't get to it yet. Being 'testing' a 'stick shift' BMW all week-and man are my arms tired! (hehe). Had to get out and push it a couple of times, too.

All you had to do was add a spoiler in cfg and air file and it will work as a very effective brake when it's in the water. (It also works as brake when in the air (drawback?)). Not spec?

And no need for rudders (type 5 cnt pts). Just add steering to rear floats (20.0 should do) and comment out '5' type lines. Works 100% better than rudders and they work 'invisibly' and are avail all of the time (ie: no need to 'lower rudders'). Not real?

Just not my style Chuck.. Its not the kind of work i'm known for.. I cant say that what i did was any more real. Like i said in my earlier post, real would take several months of work, but I do try and make things reasonably correct, even on a quick job such as this..
