Fairey Barracuda

Hi All

A plane I've just re-discovered is Kazunori Ito's Fairey Barracuda - mainly because a few repaints have turned up on Flightsim.
It's a nice plane with a decent VC, but unfortunatley rather unrealistic flight properties - the plane needs to be doing 120+ knots and a very long runway to leave the ground.
Just wondering if anyone ever did any fiddling with the tuning for this otherwise fine aircraft?

Hi,

Save your originals aircraft.cfg and air file
Replace by the ones in the attachement (remove the .txt from air file and cfg !)
Put your plane(s) txt in the aircraft.cfg

TO:
Full flaps
Full up trim
Full power
At 100 speed .. rise tail (push stick forward)
At 120 speed pull the stick
Immediately after living the ground up flaps and trim to negative pos
Ajust speed
Work for me (not a long distance TO)

Thanks Claudius - tried your files and they did indeed reduce the take-off distance (though the required take-off speed is still rather high). I did find, though, that it is now a struggle to prevent the aircraft from trying to nose-up in flight, which gives a rather uneven flying experience. Some combination of your flight dynamics with the original may be the answer?
Also, either set of files seem to result in a full throttle top speed of almost twice what the aircraft was actually capable of!
Thanks again for the files Claudius - although I don't really have a clue, I'll see if I can try some mix and match results.

Hi,

Just a info:
I don't modified anything concerning speed in air file or aircraft cfg.
I modified in the air file the ability of noze to go up (increase) and I modified (reduced) the weight of fuel.
All the other parameters are untouched.
So indeed you need for flight level to have some negative trim position.

Just incase anybody else is interested, what I was after - revised flight files - have just been posted at Flightsim. And they work rather well. This plane is now a joy to fly!
