Fairey Swordfish (freeware) released

tiger1962

SOH-CM-2025

originally developed for FSX/P3D by Flying Stations/Bravo Zulu this aircraft is now available as a fully converted native addon.

Features:
  • High-Quality Model: Retains the detailed design from the original Flying Stations/Bravo Zulu creation, converted to native GLTF format on the inside and outside.
  • Upscaled liveries: All liveries upscaled to 4K from the original FSX addon.
  • Functional Cockpit: Fully functional cockpit with working instruments and controls.
  • Historical Accuracy: Features and design elements that reflect the original aircraft, such as multiplayer visible wing folding (operated by the knob on the upper wing) and tailhook animations.
This addon is fully authorized by the original creators.

Very nice. Shame there's no sound pack included. I dropped the one from the default Beaver in, and updated the .json files. Works quite nicely.

REALLY nice conversion. Note that this is a real native MSFS conversion, not a broken portover like the recent Buccaneer and Storch. Switches work, it doesn't crash VR (and looks good in VR, though the detail's obviously a bit FSX), and it flies well.

For the sound, I aliased to the GAS Stearman. For each [flightsim.X] entry in aircraft.cfg, I just added these lines to replace the current empty "sound =" entry. You can do the same with the folder name for a different plane if you don't have the Stearman.

Sound = "\..\..\gas-stearman-model-75-common\sound"
Soundai = "\..\..\gas-stearman-model-75-common\soundai"

Looking forward to this one and will be downloading as soon as I get home (sunday), the FSX version was one of my favorites. It had both the standard and a float plane version. With this one is there an option for flying without the Torpedo?

Hi everyone! First post after many years on SOH

Glad you're all enjoying the swordfish. Apologies for the slightly bumpy start with the sound files - I've updated with sounds from the Spirit of St Louis whilst we work on a custom sound pack.

For now, the only model available is "wheels and a torpedo", but the next update will include the floatplane model, as well as configurable loadouts (I've been testing custom loadouts for multiplayer compatibility - I'm there but it just missed out for the first release!)

Stay tuned! I have lots of aircraft in the works... Fury anyone?

Denny. just wanted to say your suggestion works like a champ and GAS Stearman's sound is really beefy. Thank you for the tip. Very good plane and many kudos to Redmill for an excellent historical plane. Having a lot of fun with it.. Thank you and appreciate your contributions.

Fury! Sure!

I took the Swordfish out for the first time last night, its quite nice, it does want to bank quite a bit to one side from the torque effect that requires constant pressure on the stick to keep it level, which I don't think the FSX version did. Also the aircraft does not cast a shadow on the ground, but thats purely cosmetic so its not really a problem.

First flight report, so by no means meant to be all inclusive or cast a negative spin on anything.
I second that very exaggerated tendency to roll which requires substantial aileron to keep wings level.
And on taxiing the rudder is not at all effective up to a certain speed and then it certainly comes alive at full efficiency.
And oddly the brakes seemed to behave exactly the opposite way. Other than that she is a real beauty.
