Favorite (Best) acrobatic aircraft for FSX

I am looking for the most accurate flight profile aerobatic aircraft in FSX. I am not interested in how realistic the VC, exterior looks, or how many paints are available. I want something that will as accurately as possible reflect the real aircraft's ability to do snap rolls, spins, 3D maneuvers, etc. within FSX.

Anyone have a favorite?
 
well aside from the usual complaints about FSX and aerobatics - there are two for me the Zivko Edge 540 that is freeware and Simon Smeiman's Bipe - also freeware both are listed in the stickie thread above
 
Thanks for the heads up. I will looking to them. I know the Edge 540 is a monster in the real world circuit. Do you have an opinion on how they compare to payware aircraft?
 
The Edge 540 has pretty much the best aerobatic flight model for FSX, in my opinion. In payware I only got the IRIS Christen Eagle, which is very, too. Have not been able to do Lomczevaks or Knife edge spins as I did with the Edge, but it´s well possible, that the real aircraft is not up to it, either. The IRIS Christen Eagle has many paints aviable, though most are for the less powerful Eagle II. I don´t know about repaints for the Edge, but it includes multiple liveries.

There are 2 freeware Su-26 aviable, the older one is pretty nice to fly, the newer one has a nice external model. The older one is aviable here

The Ultimate is nice, too, does great knife edge flying!
 
+1 on the Edge, within FSX limitions the best very high performance aerobatic plane FDE wise....
 
Tried this Su-26 and even bought the EAW SU-26....the freeware Edge is much more realistic.
The twisting & tumbling in the video is nice but it's extremely difficult in FSX to achive a stable spin etc...and the Edge even enters an inverted spin as easy as an upright spin

They were...but that was a long time ago when they built the magnificient SF260 and invented spins in fs9. For a long time this was simply the very best unbeatable plane.
Since then a lot has changed FDE wise in FSX but they never took advantage of FSX increased capabilities.
The Citabria/Decathlon is a good example as it still has a fs9 style FDE (e.g. they suffer from a way too high yaw stability which makes hammerheads or snap rolls impossible, something the real Decathlon can do extremely well)

I did not know this. I have not actually attempted doing an aerobatics routine yet (but was planning to do so soon).

Can this be fixed by simply adding a number for yaw_stability in the CFG file ?

[h=5]Stability parameters[/h] The pitch, roll and yaw parameters are multipliers on the default stability (damping effect) about the corresponding axis of the airplane. For example, a value of 1.1 increases the damping by 10%. Likewise, a value of 0.9 decreases the damping by 10%. A negative number results in an unstable characteristic about the axis. A positive damping effect is simply a moment in the direction opposite of the rotational velocity. Omission of a parameter will result in the default value of 1.0.

Most probably not, as this is just one problem and in the end one change seriously affects other items as well.
To correct 'basic' flaws it's easier to start from scratch with a new FDE.
If you are interested in high performance aerobatics I recommend the freeware Edge.
For 'classic' aerobatics Rick Pipers freeware Chipmunk with the new FDE is the best.
I've tried the addictive Pitts as well and the feel is much more realistic with the Alabeo Pitts and the FDE is also definitely better.
As you mentioned, as Andrey himself made the FDE and after my experience with the Safir and the O-1, I don't even consider it.
The addictive Pitts visuals and sound quality is definitely below the Alabeo Pitts

EDIT: I get it about the Decathlon now. Can do hammerheads but only at great initial momentum and full rudder (at least with my skill)

LOL, there's a nice video about the spin tests with the real Seabee.....ours shows exactly the same spin entry...

I havent this new Pitts but I also enjoyed Ch. Eagle done by Iris. Very accurate Flight Model and nice small airplane with good FPS.
 
Bernt - just to clarify. I have the RealAir SF260 for FSX. Is the FDE in this as good for aerobatics as that in the FS9 version?
 
Don't have it presently installed, but the FSX version has noticable been improved since the fs9 version, it's still despite is age, among the very best add-ons for FSX.
It's of course still limited concerning its aerobatic capability but still better than the fs9 version.
