Having recently realized that I might be the only :costumes: flying the fokker eindekker, I'm interested to know what every else is flying in OFF (and the time frame).

My German pilot is flying in Feb 1916. I can't bring myself to retire him as he's been through quite a bit in a short time:

1 a/c kill, 2 balloons, 9 sorties, forced down 2x, 1 crash on landing, hospitalized 2x. :icon_lol: I think I'll keep flying him until fate catches up. Then, I'd like to fly an a/c with more power and a better rate of turn.

What do you fly and what would you recommend - Fr, UK, Germany doesn't matter.

Thanks, T

In early 16 it was around for the British, the Bristol Scout. If you think the EIII is a handfull, you ain't seen nothing yet :costumes:

She's very docille in the air, and can absorb an astounding amount of punishment. The trick is to hit your target without hitting a tree
I flew it for awhile. Never hit a darn thing I was supposed to, but everything else :costumes: RFC-19, 3/16

Used to have a STICKY, Devoted to the EIII and the Bristol Scout
Then came the crash

I like the Albatros D.Va and of course the Fokker D.VII for the Huns. The Brits won my heart with the DH-2, and I the Boys of 60 got me to enjoy their Nieuport.

Kozmo,

If flying for Allies - early war I really like the DH-2.
- late war I prefer the SE-5

If flying for Germans I really enjoy the Pfalz III.

And hey, even if you ARE the only :costumes: flying the eindecker, that one does take a real committment!

Nieuport 11 for me in 1916, and I always load Rockets to fire at targets of opportunity!

Read MAKAI's last combat report, and his answer to my remarks. The E III is probably the most outdated plane in P2, as it's opponents early 1916, the Airco DH 2 and the Bristol Scout, were more advanced. The E III must have been dangerous, when it appeared, but in WW1, progress was immensely fast.
When the Nieuport appeared, the Germans had nothing to confront it, until they had the Albatros.
Me, I haven't dared so far, to try an "Immelmann turn" with that flying canvas. I think, the real E III was a bit better than it's here in P2 - or I am still a rookie yet.
For the other German planes: the Albatroses can take some hits and are okay, except for long, steep dives. The Pfalz is reliable and stable, hardly ever stalls, easy to fly. But don't try to climb with a pulling up Sopwith - rather turn and attack again.
The Sopwith: nice, agile flying, good turning and climbing. But more fragile than the German planes. S.E. 5a: the British workhorse; solid, reliable, more stable; easy to fly. (The French, I haven't tried yet). Cheers; Olham

Albatros DVa
Fokker DVII
Sopwith Tripe

In that order.:mixedsmi:

Hello,
the Fokker mono plane or Eindecker EIII appears in OFF at a time, where its best days were long gone. The Eindeckers were then used at less important parts of the front as the Alsace region, the macedonian front, or against Russia, along with other obsolete planes like the early Pfalz monoplanes. Used against Farmans Xwires and Blériot 11s they were certainly superior ..
In phase 2 you can still shoot down unexperienced pilots in their Nieuports and DH2s, however since you are still flying an EIII in OFF when the SPADs appear, it becomes "interesting" - now if really one shoots at you those trees are your friends.

I like the Alb. D.Va, and the Pfalz D.III, as they are more stable than a Camel, or a Dr.I - i must be getting old. The SE5a is a bit "unreal" to fly, doing those "flat stalls" never lowering only one wing, and i do not like this vertical gun arrangement - hard to aim for me, that is.
I guess i like the more sporty looks of the Alb. and the Pfalz.

If someone made a "Taube" for the 1915/16 era i think this would be it :d

Thanks and greetings,
Catfish

...exactly, CATFISH, I agree, older and wiser I hope. We prefer some stability and reliability, to turning and being all over the place. And at the end, those Butterflies are easily shredded - saw so many a Sopwith falling out of the sky, shot to pieces.

I like all versions of albatros. Pfalz d.IIIa and fokker dr.1.

Hmm no allied planes... I wonder :)

Fokker D.VII (any variant)
Albatros (any variant)
SE5a Viper

All good. ;)

I agree with OvS on the DVII (awesome aircraft) and Albatros and will include the DrI as well.
For the Allies it has to be the Tripe, Camel, and the N17.
I hate SPADS :barf:

My favorite plane would have to be the Fok. Dr.I. Only the Camels can give me a match in a turn fight. But you cant outrun anything and have to see the fight out till the end.

For the Allies I'd say the Strutter as I had my best Allied pilot in that crate - 17 conf. Kills and 23 hours flight time.

Good stuff! Thanks for the feedback. My EIII pilot stalled out last night and couldn't recover before becoming a part of the French landscape. So, I now have the opportunity to try a different a/c. I flew a few alb. in quick flight to see what I thought. Wow, what a difference!

I think I'll stick with the Germans for a while and try my hand in an Albatros.

I've been flying the SE.5a... but I've come to really dislike the poor rearward vision. (No TrackIR, I use the hat switch.) I think I'm going back to the Camel, or try some other planes.

I just got done flying another "learning" (i.e. invincible) mission... and I think I'm gonna' have a REAL tough time in Ph3.
:redf:

I mean, if I had been vulnerable... I would have looked like swiss cheese. :isadizzy: No way I could shake those Gerry's behind me!! :banghead:
