Good evening,

I'm using the Loire-Nieuport LN.401/411 for attacks along the Sambre River on 19 May. However, Baldy's original airfile is that of a SBD Dauntless. I have modified the airfile successfully, using Wolfi's Ju-87b as a base, and put in the correct weight, engine data, wingspan, and wing area, and she seems to fly pretty well.

However, in order to get the range correct, I need information on the aircraft's fuel capacity and tank layout. I cannot find this anywhere. Would either of you know where this information can be found? :dizzy:

Any assistance would be appreciated!

Bonsoir,

Hello again,

The only two clues I have to work with is that its range was 1,200km (746 statute miles) and that the aircraft burns 25.8 gallons of fuel per hour under "normal" conditions. I can deduce that likely means economical cruise conditions, not sure if that is with or without a payload.

Bonjour encore,

Good morning,

At the insistence of Shadow Wolf 07, who told me to "stop being lazy and do some math," I calculated that the aircraft has an approximate fuel load of 103 gallons, or 392 liters.

This was calculated dividing the range (746 miles, or 1,200km) by the aircraft's speed in economical cruising flight: 186mph, or 299 km/h. This gives me the approximate amount of time the aircraft could stay airborne, (4.01 hours) times the fuel burn per hour. (25.8 gallons, or 97.66 liters)

This translates to a very rough fuel load of 103.48 gallons, or 391.95 liters.

Hi Rami,

The only information I found till now is a fuel capacity of 250kg, which means approximately 280-300 liters of gasoline.

Sorry, but found no infos in my books about the location of the fuel tank.

Reports mention that the fuel capacity was not enough to fulfill a combat mission with bombs and ammo at max range, i.e. either full range attained without bombs, or shorter range in war mission as the 1.200 km originally planned.

Francois,

Any information is better than none. Thank you for getting back to me! :encouragement:

Ln-401/ ln-411

I went searching my book collection and the only information I could find on the LN-401 and LN-411 was as follows :-
Load, one 496lb BEA 1938 bomb or one 331lb I2 bomb or 10 X 22lb bombs or 10 33lb bombs --Maximum Speed at sea level 199 mph , 236 mph at 13120 feet , maximum cruising speed 211 mph at 13120ft, economical cruising speed 186 mph at the same level, maximum range (doesn't say fully loaded or not) 746 miles which is exactly 1200 kilometres, Service Ceiling . 31,168 ft .

It's probably no help but I had the information so I thought what the hell. Some of it you mightn't have !!!!!

Regards and Best Wishes ,

1150,

That's basically what I found, but nothing on fuel capacity. :very_drunk:

Andrew,
The information I found (https://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/detail.asp?aircraft_id=745) indicated an all up weight (MTOW) of 2823Kg or 6224 lbs. If you subtract from this the empty weight and the weight of the max bomb load (4707+496 lbs) then stand on your bathroom scales and use that as the pilot's weight/ mass, adding that to the load and the empty weight, you should get the weight of the fuel. I do remember an old copy of Air International that had an article on this bird with a structural drawing. My recollection is that the fuel was carried in 3 tanks, 1 in each wing and one behind the cockpit. No idea of the relationship between mass and volume when it comes to aviation fuel.
