A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Skins - American

Description: FDG2 B17E US SWPTO Skinpack by UncleTgt

This is a collection of repaints for the FDG2 B17E Flying Fortress for CFS 2. They depict aircraft that served in & around the SWPTO.

A tweaked model is included, with a slight sheen & shiny glass.

I've revised the DP file to add new payloads more in keeping with the Long Range Search & Strike missions these bombers found themselves doing throughout the Solomons & PNG. The DP provides options for radar-equipped aircraft, & payloads use pre-war ordnance (appropriate for 1942), or DBolt's GP bombs (more likely though 1943). It also includes bomb-bay tank options, which were also common on recon flights. The ASV aerials & bomb-bay tanks are included in this zip.

I tweaked the DP gundata to make the gunners less deadly. I resized the 2D panel to make it WIN 7+ safe. I didn't provide any sound folder just to keep the download size manageable.

I revised the airfile to better replicate the range performance & improve AI formation keeping. I fixed the tendency for the player aircraft to break it's tailwheel during the takeoff roll (especially when loaded ith ordnance) by increasing the crash damage numbers for the gear. I also added some scrape points to allow you to belly-land your badly damaged bomber if needed!!

The airfile revisions also fix the annoying tendency of loaded AI aircraft to porpoise back onto the runway after first taking off. However, in doing so, I reduced the elevator aggression significantly, so don't think this airfile would be much use for skip-bombing mission profiles (but I haven't tried it).

The textures are:

19216 "Alley Oop" 11BG, 42BS. Operated from Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides

19211 "Typhoon McGoon II" 11BG, 98BS. Operated from Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides

12632 "Crock O' Crap" 5BG, 394BS. Operated from Guadacanal, Solomons

19153 "Tokyo Taxi" 11BG, 431BS. Operated from Carney 'drome, Guadacanal, Solomons

19244 "Honi Kuu Okole" 43BG, 64BS. Operated from Port Moresby & Dobodura 'dromes, Papua New Guinea

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

Thanks to

The Fightertown Design Group for the original aircraft.
Martin Wright for so many useful tools - I used MDLmat to give the glass parts some sheen.
Allen for his DOSmdlv2 - I used it to give the model a slight shine.
Kelticheart for his prop bitmap & exhaust effects.

This is freeware and subject to the usual conditions

Superb as always - thanks very much John for not only the Fortress liveries, but also for the Hellcat's and Avenger's, as well as the bombs. :applause:

Cheers,
Kevin
