FDGv2 Thunderbolt

Hello all ...

Well, I stumbled upon the FDGv2 P-47-D razorback ... wow, now it's a real toss-up as to which Jug I like more! :)

I found, however, that the pilot is completely untextured, as viewed from the spot view - any ideas as to why?

I'm also missing a pile of weapons ...

And finally, was wondering if there was ever a repaint of this model featuring the the lesser-known RAF Thunderbolt I (razorback) models. To my knowledge, they served only in Egypt - maybe Burma, but not sure.

just curious.

Delta_lima,

I use that a/c extensively. You'll need Dbolt's weapons pack for it, as well as the FDG weapons:

FDG weapons: (See attachment)

I also did an airfile fix for her because the original airfile was a bit underpowered; she also climbed like a crippled whale.

As far as skins for her, look under Captain Kurt, Cobrauk, Sopwith Chameleon, and Morton. I'm not sure about that skin, though. Make sure to put up the sound pack from Lawdog2360 as well, ya can't go without it!

I hope that helps. I gotta go to the polls, and then teach. Talk to ya later! :mixedsmi:

My advice is for you is never to Dogfight with a P-47 below 10,000 feet of altitude. It's just to slow of a climber. Always use your altitude to zoom and climb and your ability to roll and diving speed to your advantage. Last but not least, make sure have high cover by your squadron or another squadron when attacking ground targets.

Actually,

I configured this P-47 to simulate a paddle-bladed prop, so she'll hold speed in a climb at full power up to about 3,000 ft/min, right in line with historical specs.

P-47 with Macolm Hood.......

Not a total razor back..............

but it will take a shine.......

P-47 D-22 "Malcolm" Hood - Lt.Walter A. Grabowski, 511th FS, 405th FG, 9th AF, Winter 1944/45

Visual Model: Krzysztof Malinowski
Flight Model: Jay McDaniel
Weapons: Sergio "DBolt" Dolcemascolo
Panel: Claudio Di Lullo. Additional work and popup panels by Jay McDaniel.

These are my D-day skins from Atlantik Wall add-on

I shined it with Hsu MDLC........

revev has done quite a lot of SEAC Thunderbolt repaints but for the ALPHASIM ones, and yes the MkI razor-back certainly served in Burma with 113, 258 and 615 Sqns.

Yes DH - I knew the late model D (bubble top) served in Burma right at the end/slightly after the war, but had only seen images of the razorback serving in Egypt. Indeed, I have that very repaint for Malinowski/Krystoff's model installed on Gnoopey's FS9 model, which is just sublime.

Thanks for setting me straight guys.

HM, yes, I have the razorback Alphasim model repaints, but only as FS9 - I don't have the CFS2 version. Evan knows his stuff around the model, to be sure.

Well, let's just see what happens ... :running:

ps: Apollo - merci bien pour le pilot!

Air Classics Magazine

If you have access to ............Air Classics Magazine

There is a large article in this month or quarter issue on the P-47

Most of you have seen all this info before.............

but it is still good to sit and have a cup of coffee and browse.

the mapping for the FS9 and CFS2 Alphasim Thunderbolts are identical d_l, Evan even uploaded them as Fs2004/CFS2 IIRC

Indeed, HM, I know. The trouble is I have only the FS2004 version, not the CFS2 version - separate purchase, if memory serves. Hence the problem.

No worries - the FDG model is good - no complaints ... :)

Are there any SEAC skins for the KM P-47s?

If not there's a couple of holes for a talented skin artist to fill, perhaps using rev's for reference.....

There is a SEAC repaint as part of the KM P-47D bubble top. It's very nice, and works on the Gnoopey P-47 ... never did figure out the difference between the CFS2 Gnoopey P-47 and the KM one, but anyway that mashup is what I have for the '45 era RAF Jug.

I'm in discussions with Revev on adapting his Thunderbolt I repaints for the Alphasim model over to the FDG razorback ... a most kind gesture for him, given he's away from his sim PC at the moment.

Were not both Gnoopy's and KM's P-47s conversions of the CFS 3 P-47? If so, I can see where skins for either should work on both. Haven't ever tried it, but it might be a fun project.

Update: I checked the texture files in a few of the skins available for both and they are named the same, at least for the D and M model bubble tops. The N model has its own distinct texture name. Without being able to test it (no flight sims on my deployment lap top) my guess is that at least for the Bubble Top D model the textures should be interchangeable.

Indeed they are, J!
