File compare tool or scanner

I don't know where to search, or if there is such a thing. Let me explain.

I want to compare two folders for duplicate files

1 - FS2004/SceneryUltimate Terrain USA/Scenery folder
For same file names in-
2 - FS2004/Scenery/Namw/Scenery folder

Is there such a tool that will do this type of scan?

Note; I'm aware of a tool called Find All Duplicate V 2.4 but this does not do what I need to do

Thanks Claudius,

Those are a little extreme for my usage. But I thank you for your help. I was really hoping there was a tool that had two explorer windows. That would scan within those two for duplicates. I have dual window search capability on my pc, but it will take forever. I already tried. Side-by-side comparison like that is very time consuming. Not to mention I'm annoyed from having to keep track as I go. Hopefully someone has a simple-r solution.

I appreciate your assistance

OleBoy - I've always done this manually, never thought of searching for a tool, but your post did get me looking and I found this:

http://www.oorjasoftware.com/sc-lite.html (Freeware!)

Just tried it and it seems it should work for your needs, at least for an initial comparison.

But if it finds nothing (!) then we have to go to stage 2; looking for files with differing prefixes that essentially cover the same scenery contents.... but we'll worry about that when we get there... !

Let me know.

A.

Never thought of one? I do nothing by hand..if I can get away with it. They all look the same to me. So a tool will greatly help. I will have a look.

Thank you

Try Double Commander from www.sourceforge.net. It's a free version of the shareware Total Commander and is very easy to use.

All great tools for specific purposes. But far too elaborate for my needs.
....I appreciate you trying to help :salute:

I think the best tool for the purpose would be something that scans one by one, each file name from the source folder. Then cross scans the output folder for duplications. Once the scanning was finished, the scanner would compile a list of duplicates, and/or delete the duplicates on the fly. I honestly think a tool of this nature would be very beneficial to all of us involved in the hobby

Help is most appreciated. All found so far are too generic to intended use.
....It would take someone of Arnos calibre to create what I need. I think what I'm needing would already have been made..somewhere.

Dude...I think perhaps you didn't phrase the question correctly, if these links don't do it for you.
Either that, or you're not trying.
I happened to need this utility earlier, and did a quick trial.
Here's some output, it found the duplicate files in 2 folders:

Then it gave me several options as to what to do with them.
I elected to add the extension CRAP, which it did with one click, and the dups are dups no more

Oops, I failed to even download and try this one Wing_Z. Too much going on here with all the kids banging on the door trick or retreating..lol, Dang kids and their pranks has me keeping my guard up. That does look like it will do the trick. Nice find. It might be just what the doctor ordered.
.....Will test in the morning and report back:ernae:
