Finally broke down and ordered a Blu Ray drive...

I just couldn't stand it any more, and ordered one. A decent price, but have a question for anyone here that may have dealt with this potential problem.

The model I ordered is the LG WH08LS20. I don't believe it comes with a install disc with necessary driver. Also, from what I have read, VISTA does not natively support Blu Ray drives, so I will have to find third party codecs to get it to work.

Anyone have a Blu Ray drive, running VISTA, and had this problem?

Thanks.

NC

I have the same Blu-Ray player. It does come with a Cyberlink Blu-Ray Driver which is compatible with Windows Vista.
However, these old eyes couldn't see the difference between Blu-Ray and regular DVDs. Sorry.

I probably won't see much difference either. But I did notice that Blu-Ray discs hold 25 GB of memory! Of course they aren't cheap either. But am sure the prices of the blanks will come down soon.

Chief, I have the same one you brought and had no problems in Vista 32 or 64 detecting it. I didn't DL any drivers for it. All three OS's picked them up and it worked fine. The only problem was my MB was out of Sata connections. My MB came with 8 but all were in use. I did figure out that when I installed the BR I had problems when 7 HD's were hooked up along with the BR, I would sometimes get the BSOD. Once I dropped down to 4 HD's all went fine...Mike

Yep..I've BluRay in all of my PC's and most of my notebooks. I'm using the Cyberlink software to play them. You'll need a 1920x1080 resolution on your monitor/tv to get the most out of it. I bought the Planet Earth BluRay discs and was blown away by the picture quality. :)

I also read that if you use a DVI to HDMI (if your monitor has an HDMI connection) cable, you'll get better quality, too.

Awesome! Good for you NC!

Enjoy! You might want to consider a subscription to BlockBuster or Netflix !

Oh, I have a subscription to Netflix! Just want to make sure all is in working order before I upgrade my account!

Pete

Oh good! I'm with Blockbuster! I love it, especially during the winter! Good time to catch up on some shows and movies!
