First Ever Milviz Guess The Aircraft Competition

Roadburner440

Charter Member 2010
Alright. As the title states this is our first try at a guess the aircraft competition. This is a brand new work in progress now that we got a lot of the other birds out the door or very close it is time to get to others on our list. First thing is first I will get to the rules (which are fairly basic), and then the rewards for winning:

Rules:
1) One entry per person either here on Sim-outhouse.com or Milviz.com. Anybody found to have duel entries will be disqualified.
2.)Please keep it clean and respectable.
3.) Upon finding a winner it will go in order of the forum posts, and in the event it is close the time stamp on the post whether it be here or at our own site. Once somebody guesses the correct aircraft the competition is over, and the judges decision is final.
4.) Anyone who works for FSD, Milviz, or any companies related to our projects are ineligable for participation and will automatically be disqualified.

Rewards:
1.) You will get to participate on the beta team for the pictured aircraft
2.) You will get a free copy of the aircraft upon it's release.

I'd like to thank everyone in advance for their participation, and wish you all luck. We look forward to doing more of these in the future and look forward to any inputs people might have toward doing future ones! Now here are the photo's.

Not too many free castoring nose wheels, I´d say Alpha Jet, even though the upper construction looks a bit different on the photos I´ve found... Maybe different versions....

I´ll keep it: Alpha Jet

Looks like the front wheel off a Harrier. Pretty darn good model too. I was just reviewing some air show pics before I looked... Boy it's going to be great having a harrier in FSX!

yep, that was my first thought, Harrier. But no taxi light(yet?) Centering pins looks in the right place.Hmmmm...

When they were making the movie True Lies, they needed a gear assembly for the fiberglass mock-up that they had made for Arnold to sit in. They grabbed the wheel from an F-8 Crusader.

The wheel assemble in the contest looks more like a Harrier than a Crusader.

Hmm, looks,like................ a whole lot of polys for an FS wheel, LOL.

I like the harrier guess.

AV-8B :applause:

I've been wanting one since AlphaSim's/IRIS' FS9 version and I moved on to FSX. :jump:

Well if jdhaenens is wrong and it's not for a Harrier I'd say Milviz messed up and designed a harrier gear for another aircraft:kilroy::icon_lol:. I think jd got it unles someone at Milviz.com was faster. I could be wrong though, frequently I am.

Jim is indeed the winner! Didn't expect anyone to get it quite so soon! Ah well!

The total amount of triangles is.... 3672.

Yep. It's the AV-8BII+/Gr.9 that we're doing. We're well ahead on this one, seeing as we already have the AV8B. We're redoing the pit to match the real thing some other fixes and then... out the door. With any luck, before Xmas.

We're still looking at what kind of systems the modern jets we're doing will have. It's obvious, (to me at least) that we are not going to do 100% in detail systems as that would take a year or more and not really be worth it... (to us). HOTAS is going to be hell on the F-15's, the F-22 and this one.

So, we're going to ask you people what type of systems you think should be in there and we'll see what we can do. I will start up a thread if you people think that's a good idea...

thanks and congratulations to Jim! He's the WINNNNNNNEEEEEEERRRRRRRR!!!!!

kc

Just make sure it can hover, with some clever gauge trickery!

Nice to see the GR.9 is also being modelled. Can't wait to fly out of Cottesmore/Wittering in that one.

An AV-8B would be a GREAT choice!! Takes me back to my days on the line at MCAS Cherry Point! Brings back the memory of running like hell when the gun pod on a Harrier started to cook off on the pad. We ran like hell as .50 cal rounds snapped off over our heads! Lucky no one was hurt, just had to change our skivies!!:icon_lol:

Thanks for declaring the winner Colin. Congradulations on winning Jim! We look forward to having you as part of the beta team. :ernae:

Thanks, guys, I look forward to it. I may have to make a pad or two for 'em. Looked at the pads and stol markings at Cherry Point this morning (for the osprey as well?).

Jim

25 mm?
or was it the GEpod?

Well I like realistic looking and functioning VC (i.e. NO FSX F/A-18 Acceleration Gauges in other NON-F-18's); if you can make it navigate properly, and it looks like a million dollar jet. Then I'll buy them too - AV-8, F-15 & F-22 jets.

PS: Congrads Mr. Jim D. on the freebee. :applause:

We are looking into how to do the VTOL functions of the jet properly. Admittedly this is a tricky business, but nothing that cannot be over come. At the moment I am thumbing through the F-15's flight manual looking at systems implementation on that. So do keep in mind it is still a little ways off. The P-38 and Cirrus Vision are just around the bend though. I must say that I agree with Mr. Chams about the functioning VC. With the fairly large amount of talent we have available I believe anything is possible. It is pretty easy to put aircraft into FSX with the rather large data base we already have. It is like Colin says it depends on the amount of systems people want is what takes the most development time which is why we are looking to see what the popular concensus is.

I'd love to have the start-up systems modelled on this.

The first Harrier for flight simulator that actually holds promise. At the end of the day, I'd like to be able to say "I can fly an AV-8B Harrier/Harrier GR.9."
