Hi,
Can i introduce my Gmax french carrier Béarn. The Béarn was the first french carrrier build from an unfinished WWI battleship. Note that it is a work in progress. You can download the current WIP version from the "Royale French Navy" site. Some screenshots below :

I remember reading up on this one, A Pre war carrier that happened to be in the right place at the wrong time when France fell in 1940. Spent most of the war interned at Martinique and once the war was over was too slow and obsolete to be a carrier any longer so she became an Aircraft transporter during the First Indochina war. Wound up as a Barrack ship in 1967 and was scrapped having never launched her aircraft in anger! Commissioned 1927-1967! Lucky girl if you ask me. Looks fantastic here though keep up the good work...

Yeah.. I read up on it quickly after seeing the thread. I think it's main claim to fame was transporting the French gold reserves to Canada to keep them out of occupied hands! Still.. an unusual subject and one that deserves to sail again;)

Hi,

Great job, as usual.

Which type of planes served on the Bearn?

Last planes were Dewoitine 376, Vought V-156F (vindicator), Loire-Nieuport LN40 (the french stuka), maybe Levasseur PL101. At the beginning of the WWII, "Béarn" act as an aircraft transporter to carry US planes buyed by the french government : Curtiss P36, Douglas DB7, Martin (Glen for the french, Maryland for UK), was also planned G36 Wildcat for Aéronavale and Brewster Buffalo for Belgian Air Force, her planes landed to fight ground based. French Navy was thinking that "Béarn" was useless, the capital ship was the fast battle ship like Dunkerque, Strasbourg, Richelieu, Jean Bart ...

Bizarre - this thread appears OK in Chrome but fails to show up in IE11.

Who knows why?

Of course I may never know not being a Chrome user generally .......

Very nice work, Gaston. I'm sure we change history a bit to allow for Bearn to have a combat role in WWII, with Free French F4F's, SBD's, and TBF's onboard. :encouragement:

Hi,

There is many models CFs2 for this périod from Baldy avalaibles on this site (D376, PL4 etc.). Exterior models are generally great, but CV would be upgraded at standards FSX, i think.
At least one Wildcat (G36) at tbe beginning of 1940 wear french markings. It may be possible to do a repaint of the free FSX FM2 in Aéronavale markings.

These VCs aren't great too.

Hi,

Thanks for the interest for this carrier but this profile shows the version 1927 of the boat. Many changes and rebuild for the period 1935-1939 and also at the very beginning of her life 1927-1928 are done at the french yard.

Take a look at this picture

This is the 1935 version. I plan to make a 1927 and 1943 version in the future.
