Is it my idea, or the flak in P3 is too accurate for WWI? I have lost all of my 3 pilots so far by flak fire :faint:. Is there any way to tweak a file in OFF's directory to reduce flak's accuracy?
It would also be nice to have in a future patch, the option to reduce/increase flak accuracy in the workshop as well.
 
If you fly straight and level for long enough the flak will eventually get you. It seems to take a good while to find your range and altitude, then you should notice it starting to concentrate more effectively. That's the time to significantly change altitude and/or direction.

Personally I find the flak to be perfectly implemented (knocked down twice by it so far, but not since utilizing the tactic above).
 
Which brings to mind a question I had. Does Bletchley's suggested settings for a given side and time period still apply or are those already incorporated in P3?
 
Others have previously commented on AA and its hieght, accuracy and the amount off AA fired.

I believe that some of these attributes are encoded withing the original CFS 3 sim and as such are difficult for the Dev team to change. Similar to the aircraft not landing back at base observation, which is being looked into as we speak.
 
I think the archie (as I suppose we ought to call it) is pretty fair, I've been shot down twice, once over a balloon site - not unexpected and once while troop spotting - unfortunate.

I'm interested to know whether it's modelled or just an effect, i.e. does every burst have a corrresponding AA gun or is a given area designated as having flakDensity = X and the archie bursts just appear, dictated by X?

And it's no doubt been asked before but I don't know where, is there any possibility of having black archie and white archie? All I seem to see is black, irrespective of whom I'm flying for and wherever I am.
 
Well, I've played several missions in OFF-P3 campaign and I never been shot down by Flak. I've seen Flak around me but never felt much in danger by the Flak at least flying at altitudes around 7000-10000 feet (or even at lower altitudes). Guess that if you want to travel in a straight line by keeping at higher altitudes you should be rather safe. But the advises about changing altitude and direction are excelent tips for OFF inded.

As opposed to the FLAK, I find the AA machine guns quite deadly but of course only if you fly at low altitudes around those AA machine guns sites.
 
I like the new and iproved Archie for P3. Now I feel like those AA batteries are actually trying to kill me.

3 Settings for Ground Fire in Workshop

Easy = MG's only, fly above 2000

Normal = MG's & Archie

Realistic = Under say 14000, fly the same course for anything over 15 seconds. They won't find a part of you, big enough to bury.
At 2200, in the middle of nowhere, soldiers Will Fire their Rifles at You.

Don't forget time plays a big role
1915 & 16 . . . was a breeze

1917 & 18 . . . say a prayer, that you might live all day :kilroy:

As the answer appears to be "no", here are the settings again :)

Allied Pilots: EASY (1915), NORMAL (1916/17), REALISTIC (1918).

German Pilots: EASY (1915/16), NORMAL (1917), REALISTIC (1918)

In both cases, if flying in a sector where a large ground offensive is indicated in 1917, bump up the level to REALISTIC

I did post a more complicated set of month-by-month settings for P2 based on flak casualty figures, but I lost that somewhere along the way (and the great Forum Crash deleted them from the P2 forum). I guess this version is probably just as 'historic'.

The "white" Allied flak bursts was due to the continued use of shrapnel well into 1916 (it was the black powder charge that gave the white smoke). The shrapnel shells were next to useless against aircraft, but the Allies had real problems designing an HE shell for AA use, and so hung on to shrapnel for much longer than the German flak force. The German flak units switched early to HE shells, which burst with a black smoke signature and were far more lethal. In general, British and French AA technology (particularly with regard to muzzle velocity and shell fuses) lagged somewhat behind that of the Germans, at least up to 1918, although their ranging technology was, for the time, very good.

There are flak bursts on easy....I've seen 'em. Lost a pilot in P3 due to flak while attacking a balloon.
 
Two things:

1) In P3 now, the early years there are no AA Flak guns at airfields as standard and only appear in 1917 onwards.

2) It is quite possible to change the effect/accuracy of the flak guns automatically over the years too - might look at that later for 1.3 but no promises.
