Flight1 P-51D is out!

Have to disagree on this and really surprised you feel that way, especially since it's your job to make 3rd party addons look good (which you do very well!)

Heh, don't get me wrong Michael. I mean that if the add-on is of very poor quality, it's next to impossible to make it look good, especially poor scenery add-ons.

Hi,

A quick note... Although I was not party to the development of the project (it was done via the folks in Europe who had access to the actual Mustang plane), I know they went to great lengths to make it functionally complete... in that they tried to get every little detail to work so that flying this on the PC would be as close as you could get to flying the real P-51.

If you are looking for a weather-worn visual version, this may not be your cup of tea. If you are looking for an accurate replication, that (for the moment) is 1945 factory fresh, with practically every knob, button, switch, lever, etc, in the VC working, and with most of it attached to working aircraft systems (within the limits of FSX for this type of aircraft of course), then hopefully it is your cup of tea!

Anyone who doesn't like that needs to just go and buy a real Mustang and be done with it! :d I might have to buy it now! Great shots.

I like it.......I just like a little less new texture in my pit. All the "stuff" in the pit is fun to play with, just about everything can be used/clicked etc.

I shall put my refunded money into my Real Mustang purchase fund then!

Great shots again Nick. :ernae:

Had 20-25 min flight last night, and I still liking it.

Great shots indeed Nick, as usual.

Just to echo Steve's comments, we have painted the cockpit the way it is for one reason. That's the way it is. If I have the owner standing there looking at the work and nodding his approval, that's good enough for me.

Maurice's P51s are finished to an extremely high standard and the cockpits in those aeroplanes are exactly how you see them here. What would be the point of using a baked texture look?

An oil painting is different to a watercolour. Does that make one better than the other? It's always a matter of personal taste.

We may indeed produce a wartime scratched, faded baked texture look at a later date but the decision was taken to go with the look we see in the real thing as per the restored examples.

For those that hate this one. Well, it's your decision. Can't help you there I'm afraid...:engel016:

I'm not a customer for this, so only one comment from me - it's nice to see that even the people who don't like it are now happy via some good customer service. Hats off for that :applause:.

It looks like i have to spend some money to figure out if the AC is worth of it.

One remark, the LouIV / Athelene did not have a red cockpit paint during wartimes, neither it was blue.

P-51D-5-NA, 44-13410, E2-C
"LOU IV" (his fourth aircraft named for his daughter)
"ATHELENE" (right side; thought to be the crew chief's lady friend or wife)
callsign: 'Easy Two-Charlie'

LOU IV was painted using RAF Dark Green (HEX: 595C4E / RGB: 89,92,78)

Someone might wanna correct this repaint

The restored Lou IV, which happened to be restored several times from other aircrafts was not wearing a red cockpit painting either.

Hello Bazzar,
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p> </o:p>
I am one of those people who likes factory-fresh planes. I wish more developers made them.<o:p></o:p>

What would be the point........realism, maybe? To my eye the cockpit colors just doesn't look right, it lacks depth. Just one solid color with no variation? Nothing in nature is that perfect......but I in guess thirty some years of painting my eye has learned nothing.:engel016:

Don't take that as an "attack"! It's one SMALL observation in an aircraft that I'm VERY HAPPY with!! Seems to me some people just didn't give it a fair chance and are happy with posting about it.:engel016:

I can see where you're coming from Mud. I just looked at the interior screens above and as someone who worked extensively on a P-51 restoration a few years ago, I can only say I wish my paint job on the interior looked that perfect, lol. I guess that's where someone with a talent for photoreal texturing would be an asset. However, what a B___h of a job that would be, lol. I'm like spaceweevil in that I'm not a customer. I'm of the opinion that the P-51 (as a general aircraft) is the most overdone aircraft in the Flightsim world and a lot of that comes from having labored on one 6 and sometimes 7 days a weeks for almost a year to completion. I wouldn't care if I never saw another P-51, lol.

I get your point Falcon. My thoughts: There are only two, now three, P-51D's for FSX. A2A which is showing it's age and the default which isn't worth mentioning in my opinion. I'm not the biggest mustang fan in the world believe me! Naval aviation aircraft and German WWII aircraft are my thing. But one has to admit that the mustang is one of the most popular aircraft ever built. More people recognize it than anyother aircraft. Therefore I believe developers know if they build one it may sell well. I plan on buy two P-51D's, A2A and Flight1's, that's it. When I figure out which one is my favorite the other one most likely will be removed. Right now the Flight1 P-51D is the best over all mustang around!

I won't be getting this one, but not because I don't like it - because I have no money to get it! :icon_lol:

The way I looked at it (until I just spent sixty quid on a book and blew my budget out the window until after Christmas) is that the A2A one is still a while away. I was going to get this one to use until the Accu-Sim one arrives, at which point I'll probably, to be honest, switch allegiance to that because I love that extra level of detail in the handling of the aircraft, systems and engine.

So just because it's a moot point whether I'll be getting it or not, I'd still be happy to do so.

Of all the textures shown here, it is obvious that Janie and Marinell have had the most work done to, and they're simply fab. The other textures are a little dubious however, and the alpha channeling could do with a little work...not quite shiny enough for a stang. The VC does look very good now, and as it's "completely funtionable" this sounds like A2A's got some good competetion.
