the pylons are the highlighted bit in the pic of body2

A word of advice to all repainters out there is to use the Factory Fresh body1 & body2 maps as a base for all metal finishes or at least the alpha channel so the interiors of all the intakes, radiator bits and mat surfaces retain their non reflective surface.
The paint kit does not include the alpha channel and its very complex.
The darker the black the higher the reflection and a pure white is a completely non reflective surface , the Spec map and its alpha channel are controlling the specular shine its degree and spread

ok question, i was flying at about 26, throttles to the wall, trying to see if i could hit 414mph, two issues, first off i couldnt get past 250 Ias, second, my manifold pressure was around 50, the engines quit after a while, did i blow them? I read somewhere about seeing fire and smoke when i push the engines too hard, i got none of this. Im assuming the 250 IAS is on me because i can never get any craft to its max speed at altitude so im obviously missing something.
I suspect you should be looking at ground speeds in MPH, not air speeds in knots at altitude.
how could ya do that in a ww2 cockpit with primitive gauges? I know the gps shows groundspeed but only the restored model has it, i did notice however while doing these tests in an area i know well in real life that I covered a lot of ground in a short amount of time. So all top speeds are really over ground? Makes sense.

The key here is the difference between true airspeed & indicated airspeed. The higher you go the lower the indicated will read for a constant true speed across the ground. Back then it was obviously computed manually. While I am not sure what tool was used back then here is a current version...

Alrightythen... have got the right thread this time.
Have flown the warbird for hour after enjoyable hour every day since release. In interest of helping to keep track & confirm other's observations:

* "Red Bull" restored will not load here as well, either fresh or when attempting to switch models after loading the factory fresh '38. In fact, the sim locks up totally when doing so... something almost never happening to my FSX install.
* Additionally, now the YF-23 that I've had & enjoyed for some time before release of the Lightning will not load in FSX, also locking it up before the flight is fully loaded.
* Cannot access the P-38J through the load manager. Trying to gets me the message, "The path to the P-38J model could not be found in its recorded location" Upon showing it the path using the "Browse" button, still no go & it is advising a possible reinstall may be necessary.
* One observation to pass on & perhaps you can expand on it: Any P-38 flown in my sims thus far as well as the videos seen of landing her differ from what I'm experiencing on this end. Full flaps, floating a foot or so above the runway, she doesn't drop fast as expected here after the throttle is cut. In fact, her stall speed dirty is about 69 KIAS or so... yet touching down at any more than 71 KIAS will touch the nosewheel first. At 71 she'll basically 3-pointer it. Am aiming for 69 - 70 & am getting it down well. When the throttle is cut it just seems a bit off on landing in this way. Just a little something to wonder about, asking.

No regrets here. As diverse & complex that so many computer systems/OSs/setups are, it must drive you guys mad at times, trying to figure out what in the wide, wide world of sports is going on sometimes. It will all be worked out, as always. Will keep flying the other ones with a stooopid grin on my face whilst things are worked out. Thanks again.

NOW you tell me....
I did that at first, but I discovered several blurry textures, due to the stencils in the painted layer and the alpha not lining up perfectly. In the end I made my own alpha channel, so I can vouch for the above statement, yes, it is very complex...
Nail on the head. There are millions if differant hardware/software combo's, and we can only test for so many. We have a good size beta team, but they cant test for it all. The only thing we can do is knock them down as fast as we can once they crop up after release. I really apprecate the users that are bearing with us till we can fix some of these users. Thanks guys! You have been a great help!

Jan, the lightswitches are behind the controlcolum, check with "A-key", the ones for the formationlights under the belly are on the right cockpitwall.

I have just installed the P38 and so far I like it, very much up to the standard the I expect from FSD, however I have one small problem, when I go to Start - Programs - FSD I get the message that the folder is empty, so I have no Manuel, can you please advise?<o></o>

Hi , you will find the POH in the main FSX folder under FlightSim Developers / Pilot Manuals
As a part of the updated files being processed i added a Yoke Remover Clickspot , any of the gauge glass faces when clicked will hide and unhide the Yoke,
there are a number of other tweaks and improvements that the kind advice of members here have allowed us to implement on the P-38
