Fly-by Sounds

Quicksand

SOH-CM-2023
Is there a way to increase the volume of the fly-by sounds in FSX? I've noticed some of mine are barely audible, even with the settings for engine sounds and the master volume on my machine maxed out... Have I missed a setting, or am I stuck with them as is? Any input appreciated..

I did some tinkering last night, and found my computer's master volume was not cranked all the way up, but upon advancing the slider, it made the other engine sounds unbearably loud in comparison....... Mrs QS actually broke out her airshow hearing protectors at her desk next to mine as testimony.... No soap yet, docs...

Have you checked the distance (camera.cfg) the plane is passing by?
I found the default distance being too far away for my liking.
If you decrease it (and the zoom) the flyby volume is much louder of course.

it depends partly on the sounds that are provided for the flyby's, also you may be able to boost the audio through the sound.cfg.

I just went into the main FSX sound folder and found this, and only this, in the sound.cfg file..

[FLTSIM]
product_code=FSIM
alias=FA-18\sound

Is this normal?

Altering the tower position helps.
Set the tower closer to the fix point for your flypast. I use a program called "Get Tower View" to do this, but it can also be done in the FS map settings.
Instead of having to zoom in 10X, I only need to zoom in twice. The volume increase is very noticable

I'll try that, Stuart, but now I'm worried my main sound cfg file may be corrupt or altered in some way. Can someone check theirs as well and let me know what you find?

I can zoom my flyby view, but the volume remains the same...

Well, that's what I've written in my post.
Changing the zoom doesn't change the Volume at all.
You have to change the DISTANCE in the cfg file....

There shouldn't be any sound.cfg in the main FSX sound folder

SG38, do I do that in the main FSX cfg file, the main sound cfg, or with each aircraft independently? Sorry for the newb questions, but I've never dabbled with these sounds before... Sorry. just re-read your post.. Camera view, right?

What do I change the distance to?

ChaseDistance = 500

That's the one!

ChaseHeading = 15
ChaseAltitude = 10
ChaseTime = 20

These you can change as well. Just try what setting you like best.
There shouldn't be any sound.cfg in the FSX sound menu!

You have to change these settings in the 'camera.cfg' which is in the same menu as the 'fsx.cfg' file.

[FLTSIM] product_code=FSIM alias=FA-18\sound what this is telling you is that the sound for the plane you are using alias's the sound from the FA-18\sound. So to alter the sound.cfg you browse to the FA-18\Sound and open that sound.cfg this is a great way to keep down file size especially with developers that like to include audio for each variation.
