Flying MSFS less and less

While I'm not impacted in any ways (and my Windows10 is more than 5 years old already without a reinstall, if I'm not mistaken), I do see the kind of problem described here more and more when I read the various FS forums here and there.
Sometimes it's the sim that cannot reach the main menu.
Sometimes, like recently when I tried to help a fellow simmer who wanted to switch from FSX to MSFS, the sim wouldn't even LAUNCH ! Like, on Steam, you press "Play", and nothing happens.

There seem to be an unidentified root cause deep within Windows 10 AND windows 11.
It seems not to matter whether you're using the Steam or the MS-Store version of MSFS.
At some point, *something* happens and prevents MSFS to run or launch.
And nobody knows what it is. Nobody knows how to solve (reinstall Windows is not a solution, it's the failure itself).
And MS doesn't tell fertilizer about it.
This is very frustrating, to say the least.

The Gaming Services app and/or your Xbox Credentials can become corrupted, I got these solutions from the MSFS2020 Zendesk FAQ page:

To repair Gaming Services on your PC using the Xbox App:

Launch the Xbox app for PC.
Click your Profile picture.
Click on Support.
Click on Gaming Services Repair Tool.
Click on Start repairing.
This takes about 30 seconds on my PC and fixes the issue until next time it happens, usually after a CTD.

If the Gaming Services Repair Tool doesn't change anything, it's possible that your XBox Credentials have become corrupted.
These "credentials" are your digital proof of ownership files and they are checked every time you launch MSFS. They can become corrupted after a CTD for example, but they're fairly easy to re-set:

First of all, log out of your Microsoft Store account and your Xbox App account.
Then, in the search window on the taskbar, type credential manager.
In the Credential manager window, under Manage your credentials, select Windows Credentials on the lower right.
There'll be quite a list of entries, and most of them will begin with "XblGrts". These are your MSFS credentials.
Click on each XblGrts entry and select Remove. Don't worry, once you've deleted them all they'll be automatically re-created when you reboot Windows.
Once you've rebooted, log back in to your Microsoft Store and Xbox App accounts, and relaunch MSFS.

Thanks for the suggestions, however despite working through both the Gaming Services Tool and the Credential Manager, the error remains. Back to P3D, lol

Thanks again for the info. I went through every one of the tasks, then did a reboot and attempted to launch MSFS but came up short again as the error message popped up again. I went to the event viewer and found these recurring events (a total of 2692 times between the 30th of Oct and today):
Intel(R) Ethernet Controller (2) I225-V
Network link is disconnected.

The Network List Manager reports no connectivity to the internet.

A connection to the Windows Update service could not be established.

Despite never noticing any loss of internet connection while online.

Ed,

What is the build of your Windows 10? If you don't know, type winver in the search field of your taskbar and hit enter. If you could take a screenshot of that and post that here, that would be helpful.

Cheers,

I have run the correct method for activating the TPM on this rig but all that shows in the BIOS is PTT. I checked the motherboard and there is a pin set for the TPM module but there is no module on the board. Seems I may have to purchase the module.
Here's a short explanation on enabling TPM 2.0 on your motherboard:

It could be that Windows Firewall is blocking Windows Update for some reason, this guide may help:

I hope you get it sorted Ed. I haven't flown it in about a year, because when I built my new PC, I couldn't figure out which folder it was in to re-install and after three tries in different locations I gave up:
a) Because I didn't want to have to re-install all of my add-on files and
b) Because FS2024 is OTW. Already bought it, just waiting to download and install.
Good luck figuring out your issue. Hopefully you have it sorted before the FS2024 release.

Perhaps I'm late to the party here, but have you run a windows system file scan?
  1. In your Windows search bar (bottom of screen), type "Command Prompt" and then run it in Admin mode by right clicking on the result and selecting "Run as administrator".
  2. Answer Yes to the next prompt.
  3. When the dos style prompt appears, type sfc /scannow and press enter.
  4. Let it do its thing. If there are errors, it will attempt to automatically correct them.
  5. Close the window when done.
BTW - it helps to run this every so often. In the past two years since my last build, its caught and repaired corrupted system files several times.

I had already checked that and my drive is GPT-UEFI. The only thing I see that does not go along with that is that the "Secure Boot State" indicates "Off" not On as it should be.

NOTE: Possibly due to the fact that there isn't a TPM module installed.

I've ordered a TPM-2.0 module that should be here in about a week. My intent is to go to Win11 in the hopes that it eliminates whatever it is that has plagued my attempts to install MSFS and have it run continuously day to day without having that error pop up for no apparent reason.

Well, while waiting for the module to arrive I had what I thought was a great idea based on a few google searches about my MSFS problem. Several folks felt like it was more likely to be a windows problem than a Sim problem. Solution. . .do a reset of Win10. . .easy enough and so after performing that reset I reinstalled P3D_V4.5 (my fallback Sim) I went to Orbx Central to load all my Orbx purchases but couldn't remember my password so I had a reset link sent to my email address (nothing after 4 tries). So I had it sent to my gmail (nothing after 4 tries). I put that on hold and moved to MSFS which I had previously uninstalled. I had also reinstalled the XBox App. Went to the Store, loaded my Library and initiated a new install for MSFS. It starts, indicates "queued" then sits there alllllll day. Eight hours later I turned everything off and went to bed. So apparently the reset was a bad idea after all. I can't do a clean install of Window10 Pro because I don't have an installer. "Give me strength", lol

Hi. If you have change your email after you buy MSFS there will there be i problem , can take days to get it right ~ you must log in with the original e-mail , ( also look in Msoft Store , Apps , after ownership ) then it can work again , next day ~ ( and update Windows too ) just saying ;)

Excuse me, but could you have block some updates for Windows 10 , in Pro there is an option for that ~ sorry if this have been "discusses" before :)

Got a notice that my TPM module is out for delivery. Once I get it plugged in I can run the PC Health program again and make sure I can update to Win11.

Module installed and ready for Windows11!! Also MSFS is running as it should, no more error messages (not related to TPM obviously). I have been staying on top of updates, something I never had to do until now and I'm not even certain that was the problem but at least I can fly again.
