Flying Stations HMS Victorious - 1944 - Released!!

I am only landing successfully about 20% of the time using the Vertigo SBD on the Intermediate Flight Model.

Getting better with practice and really enoying it.

The batman is great! He signals if you can land or not or need an adjustment.

The Batman signals given are:

Both Hands = Up Go Up
Both Hands Down = Go Down
Right Up, Left Down = Go Left
Left Up, Right Down = Go Right
Both Level = On Centreline/Glideslope

One thing though to get it to work I have a directory under C:\FSX\Gauges called FlyingStations (from installing the previous Victorious - early war model) and I put the FDO.xml in there.

The way I read the instructions was it should be put in a gauge sub-directory under the Panel directory for the aircraft you use which did not make sense to me nor work - the SBD does not have such a directory.

I have this in the [Vcockpit01] of the SBD panel.cfg and it all works
- gauge03 added for first Victorious - early war
- gauge04 I added for the late war version for the batman

gauge00=VS_SBD!Backbone, 0,0,20,20
gauge01=VS_SBD!BackboneLights, 1,1,20,20
gauge02=VS_SBD!BackboneFailures, 2,2,20,20
gauge03=FlyingStations!Hook.xml, 0,0,0,0
gauge04=FlyingStations!FDO.xml, 0,0,0,0

Great job, well done!

P38man, re your first question read the Batman section in the readme contained in the Victorious folder.

To lower the crash barrier raise the tail hook.

The screenie will give you a idea of the cat hook up position, there is no red light the dark line is the cat track so you can see where to position for cat.

I only use Shift+I to hook up = all FAA aircraft were strop launched no tow bar and shift+space to launch

Does that mean I should do a SHIFT+I and then just push the throttle forward then (and NOT do the SHIFT+SPACE) ?

P38man, do SHIFT+I this gets you hooked up, open the throttle the use SHIFT+SPACE to launch

SHIFT+SPACE fires the cat.

Does that mean I should do a SHIFT+I and then just push the throttle forward then (and NOT do the SHIFT+SPACE) ?

Thanks for making that clear. That is what I have been trying to do anyway.

I say trying because I haven't been skillful enough to line up to get on the catapult.

On the Nimitz it is easy due to the length of the deck.

I prefer the Victorious though because it matches the period I am interested in and has great features - the signalling batman and raising and lowering crash barriers all work great. I like the escort ships are nearby.

I will get better at it over time.

Are you having problems getting all aircraft lined up on the cat or just some ?????

Do all your aircraft have a launch assist section in the aircraft.cfg ????

Only using one - the Vertigo SBD Dauntless.

Then that is your problem, give me a bit of time to see if I can sort it out.

P38man

Paste this line at the bottom of the Lights section in aircraft.cfg It will give you a green light just above the deck which indicates the hookup point, you need nave lights switched on to see it

light.xx = 3, 8.0, 0.0, -5.5, fx_navgre , // lug

check your aircraft.cfg for a entry like this, if you have one delete it and copy paste this in its place, if no entry copy paste this into the aircraft.cfg, under your tailhook entry is a good place

[launch_assistance]
launch_bar_pivot = 2.3, 0.0, -3.2
launch_bar_lug = 8.0, 0.0, -5.5

Replace your tailhook section with this

[tailhook]
tailhook_length = 4.0
tailhook_position = -17.00, 0.0, 1.5
cable_force_adjust = 3.0

Let us know how you get on

There is a reason for me not being keen on fixing payware stuff, it lets them off the hook and provides a patch

P38man, Just noticed I omitted to say re the lights line,

light.xx = 3, 8.0, 0.0, -5.5, fx_navgre , // lug

change the xx to the next highest number in the light section.

One thing though to get it to work I have a directory under C:\FSX\Gauges called FlyingStations (from installing the previous Victorious - early war model) and I put the FDO.xml in there.

Yeah, that would make more sense thinking about it, I’d forgotten I’d done that!
I may update the read me at some point...

Just to clarify for everyone if you put the FDO.xml file in the main Gauges folder in a sub-folder called FlyingStations and add this line:

gaugeXX=FlyingStations!FDO.xml, 0,0,0,0

to the [VCockpit01] section of the panel.cfg of whatever aircraft then the batman and the barrier will work as advertised and you won’t have to copy the FDO.xml to all the aircraft. Obviously change XX to the next number in sequence in that section.
Amazing what you forget isn’t it!

If like me, the Flystations!Hook.xml gauge was added to planes, this can be replaced by the FDO.xml gauge (I found the Hook code inside the FDO code, so I think this is so). I forgot to check and briefly had both gauges on some planes.

sWell I made all the changes Rich recommended including taking out the hook gauge (as mfitch recommended) because it uses the one in FDO.xml.

I have worked out how to land with the hook catching most of the time!

I try to unhook the hook a few times eventually it does after I move forward a bit. The barriers come down.

I am now able to line up perfectly using the nav light on the catapult - thanks Rich!

I then press SHIFT-I and it tells me the catapult is loaded.

I power up and then it comes off the catapult! No catapult launch at all.

If I don't power-up and press SHIFT-SPACE to launch - nothing happens.

Cannot get the catapult launch working (I can do it with the Nimitz no problem).

Sorry I am 99% there, should be my last question!

P38man, I did the mods very quickly last weekend on my mates comp, I had no dropping launch assist and just launching on engine power but it did come up some time ago on a different aircraft, something in the model file I think, if you have that max realism crap set at max pull all those sliders back to zero, It is a load of crap and I never use it.

Try that and see how you get on, will see him again tomorrow and borrow a copy to mess with here with time on my side, it is not a model I want as it was never a RN FAA aircraft and will not take up space on my HD.

MAX CRAP is your problem I think

This thread is about HMS Victorious I think not about a non working aircraft, as far as I can see Victorious works ok unless I have missed something.

Your problem is with Virtigo's SBD I have tried to give a fix which only seems to have partly worked, as far as I can see your only recourse is to tackle Virtigo.

I have helped as much as I can and more than I wanted to.

Rich

I honestly did not try to hijack this thread into a discussion about the SBD. If you look at all of my posts in this thread in total I hope you may agree but I am sorry anyway.
