I , too, am looking forward to seeing this program. As a long time Alaskan I think it’s great that Alaska based/themed TV shows are being made and I hope this is a good one. Unfortunately, to date, most of the stuff that has been released (Alaska State Troopers, Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, Sarah [cough, retch] Palin‘s Alaska, etc.) has had very little to do with real life in the 49th state. Let’s all look forward to this one breaking that mold. Stay warm. LA

Yes, I hope it is better than those as well. I have seen episodes of two and skipped the others. Curiously I do know people who like Deadliest Catch including an Alaskan native friend who once worked on fishing boats (not crab).

Oh! Thanks for the head's up! Hubby will enjoy that!

I have always wanted to go visit Alaska. I hear so many positive comments from people, who have taken either a cruise ,or simply have gone to explore.
Alaska is definitely on my "places to see" list.

So let me get this straight.............

dealing with potentially dangerous, intoxicated locals is a fairy tale.........
the dangers and miserable conditions of commercial fishing are greatly exaggerated........
driving behemoths on ice and thru snow is a "snap".........
and Sarah's (cough, retch) hunting, camping, fishing is only done by eccentrics ???

Wow!! I feel really let down......like when my parents told me there was no Santa Claus when I was 21.

I am sooooooooo looking forward to this show! I loved Alaska truckers. The only state in the U.S. I have never been to. Thanks for the H/U!
Ted

I've been to Alaska twice. Those two visits were drastically different from each other. Everyone has different views of it, primarily because it is so huge and so many things happen there. IRT is one piece of it, Deadliest Catch is another, Gold Rush is yet another and I think this will be a show that sort of ties the pieces together.

Hey luckydog

I was talking about so-called reality TV. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the people that actually do these jobs. I know, or have known in the past, any number of people who do them every day/week/month/year. But if you look up reality TV in the dictionary it says: "See Fiction". These shows are not meant to portray reality. They are meant to make money for thier advertisers. I do not insist that everyone ought to believe what I believe or think what I think. But the he facts, as I see them, remain evident. And if they are not, to you, the same facts then more power to you. I agree with your opinion, too. LA :salute:

The shows you listed are called "ACTUALITY" programs......

"REALITY" shows have:
..a prize
..a definite end date
..eliminations
..physical/mental contests or games.

"ACTUALITY" shows have:
.. real people in real situations (Sarah Palin hunting, fishing, camping etc)
.. true crime and investigations ( Alaskan State troopers )
.. an unusual, dangerous or interesting business ( Dangerous Catch, Ice Road Truckers )
.. or are narrated with interviews

I try to avoid "reality" whenever I can......

i saw last night that the "season priemier " is now to be january 14thnot the the 5th..need to keep and eye on this and see what up...i have dierctv btw

This ought to be a good series.

No disrespect Luckydog. I sense a calloused humor. If you been there and lived it, don't blame ya. IceRoad Truckers pussies?.......HAHA!! Crabbers=whimps?

Relative to all who live in those extremes, it's a hardened way of life. And the word numb doesn't mean cold.
