FlySimware PT-26

Just bought this trainer today. After a little fiddling with the interior and exterior glass, I'm happy with the aircraft. I've googled for repaints but so far have found none. Anyone know of any?

CWHM PT-26 Spirit of Fleet II

Hi Roger:

I'm usually very timid with my repaints, as I don't see myself as a particularly accomplished painter, but I will share this one with you if you would like it. Its still a WIP, as I have just noticed a mistake in it, but I'll be happy to send it along when I get the fix done.

The "Spirit of Little Norway" in your screen shot is in the collection of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario. The one in my screen shot is "Spirit of Fleet II", the other PT-26 in their collection.

Would you mind sharing your glass refinements? Or perhaps teach me how to do the fix myself? Glass and transparency is an area I know nothing about.

Thanks.

Douglas

Hi Douglas, good to see a repaint coming:ernaehrung004: Regarding the glass, darkening the alpha channel helped, especially the interior reflections. I will send them to you if you like.

Yeah, it is a shame there doesn't seem to be any. A pretty decent flyer with a lot of potential. I have a hunch there isn't a decent paintkit for it and that keeps people away. Would be curious about your glass fix...That too could be a nice improvement.

Thanks, Roger, I would appreciate the glass fix. The alpha channel in the "Canopy.pdf" file I have is set at 255, 255, 255. Think I might just play with that and see what I get.

I have now noticed many mistakes in my textures (wrong roundels being one). As well, the nose logo is far more complicated than I thought and needs a major rework. I'll start in on it tomorrow, but I'm thinking a trip to Hamilton to get some photos is in order. There's a BCATP fly-in in May that should net lots of photos.

Cheers.

Douglas

I have to say your glass modification brings a drastic improvement in the global visual realism of this aircraft, especially when compared with the screenshot below it.
I don't have this aircraft, but I have their Mu-2, and I was wondering if the same fix would apply on that aircraft ?
I'll have to take a look.

PT-26 Cornell is nearly finished, and when I finish a few minor tweaks I'll upload it to the library. Right now, it's wearing the darker yellow from the earlier war years, and Type C roundels in the war time muted colours, and looks much as it did when it left the factory in 1943. If people prefer, I can change the yellow to the brighter post war yellow it currently wears, and change the roundels to a brighter red and blue. Or I could post both the war time and present day textures.

I've tried everything I know about alpha channels and transparencies (which is precious little) but nothing I did had any impact on the glass textures.

Cheers,

Douglas

I too downloaded your Cornell repaint and really like it!! It is now the nicest repaint for the model. Your texturing of the wings and other fabric surfaces have really improved the appearance and realism of the Cornell. I hope you would consider doing some more repaints for this fun to fly Primary Trainer?? Also...thanks to all for providing the Glass Fix. Makes a big difference too!!

Hi Fellas,
I'm thinking about picking this one up, but am concerned about the canopy glass. Could somebody please post the fix here so it doesn't end up sitting in my hanger.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks HalfSaw for the excellent repaint and to you Roger for the Glass fix, what a difference it makes.

I downloaded Paint.net to see if i could have a go myself at fixing the Glass but it's not as straightforward as i first thought.

Basically it's about the alphas in the glass textures. The alphas are both white and darkening them is what takes the ultra shiny effect away. For the interior glass same thing and I reduced the colour interior reflections to nearly gray scale.

This is the last of three repaints I was working on when Roger started this thread

I'm going crazy right now trying to find the texture for the tail wheel strut so it be painted blue. Success soon, I hope, and then I'll upload it.
