I've looked for a photo of this particular aircraft. I had one in a magazine which I lost, but remembered it and have been looking ever since. Now I've got it again in a new book - and there are one or two others like it.
I can just hear you all saying that there's honestly nothing special about this one, but there is - keep looking. The camouflage on the wings and tailplanes has been painted with a jagged edge. What's really odd is that this has been done in the factory, as shown by the fact that the flaps and ailerons, which are fitted AFTER painting, have been done conventionally. And what's odder still is that the only aircraft I've ever seen painted this way all belong to I./JG 53, in Italy in late 1943. As this is a factory job, you'd expect to find them cropping up here and there, but that doesn't appear to be the case...
