For aerobatic flying

One thing missing from my FSX setup is a good aerobatic plane - for aerobatics, not sightseeing. So I'm looking for advice.

If you had to have only one aerobatic plane, which one would it be?

Thanks! :mixedsmi:

Owen.

The FSD Turbine Toucan. You'll go aerobatic just starting the thing....

Loads of fun, though! A bit like trying to tame a dragon, although it can be done...

Rick Pipers freeware DHC Chipmunk with the updated FDE...if you are interested in elegant aerobatics with style....

The Vertigo Studios Bearcat is the one I enjoy the most for aerobatic flying - though all of my WWII-era fighters and trainers get the occasional aerobatic display work-out.

Aha... So there isn't a consensus! ;)

Thanks everyone!

@John, my current "aerobatic" mounts are fighters too! I've been tempted by VS planes but the prices are a bit off-putting to be honest.

@Bernt, interesting - did you do that fde update? Where can I get it?

Rich folks around here. All recommendations were payware.

I would try first Tim Conrad´s alias Piglet´s Zlin Z50L or Samdim´s Avions Mudry CAP-10. Default Extra 300 ain´t that bad either.

David Rowberry´s LAK Genesis 2 acrobatic glider should be fun too.

Had a look for the chipmunks fde and found it wiithin seconds right here on SOH. And yes it is by Bernt ;)

I made the new FDE due to a request from an ex-airforce Chipmunk pilot and with his detailed and extensive help I could make a very realistic FDE.

I have enjoyed the Chipmonk with your redone FDE, and as usual it's very fine work. The problem is that the Chipmonk is just too slow for my tastes, so I don't 'fly' it much.

Vertigo RV-8

Smooth as silk! You could also go for the now freeware Iris T-6A. Great stuff at the Iris web site.

Great choices all.. I'll second the FSD Turbine Toucan - it's pretty extreme, very challenging to fly, and has well modeled PT6 engine control effects.

Realair's SF-260 (and Decathlon/Scout pack for that matter), though a little old, is still a great performer.

Addictive Simulations Pitt's and Iris' Christen Eagle are worthy aerobats too.
