For Bush-Pilots

I know it takes a pretty good headwind to do that, but any day you can touch down and stop in just the length of your own plane, that's doing something!:applause:

Just come out to my home base at L67 any time during the Santa Ana winds and you can, if you dare, do that with your average C-172/182.
On one particular nasty day I had to get my Saratoga back home from avionics work performed at a nearby airport before midnight or get a ferry permit for an expired annual.
Winds were between 45 and 55 according to the SBD helo squad on the field but relatively steady and aligned with runway 35. In very strong winds we typically plan to land a bit long on this runway because that avoids turbulence or vortexes caused by the large hangar just east of the runway. But from touchdown to stopped was still just a bit more than twice her length....if you know the PA32s you know that landing extremely short is not exactly their specialty ;)

Taxiing from the runway to the hangar took twice as long as the flight because Sara wanted to point her nose into the wind.

Cheers

Noticed one of the cubs had an extra set of wings.

Back in the early 70's I remember watching as a yellow Piper cub landed at my my father's grass airstrip, it had an extra set of wings. Only one I ever saw until this one in the video.

I have dout that the extra set of wings is worth the effort. But I remember watching that yellow one coming over the fence and it did appear to have more float than a stock cub as it came in.

The black one with the extra wings in the video doesn't seem be more advantageuos than the others. Still it is unique to see a cub with the extra wings. Couple of years ago I wondered about that bi-winged cub and tried to find on the inet anything to do with the type but couldn't find anything or stc's info about it. Clearly it is a rare sighting.

It might not be much advantage in STOL performance, but I'd imagine the extra wing would give higher payload capacity.

If anyone knows how to contact J.E.Narcizo I used these vids to mod his J3 to fly like these hotrods. He liked what I did but never came out and said go ahead and post. I also assumed a decent head wind for the results. What I couldn't do was tweak the engine to rev like a funny car, which would also help capture the feeling.
