hi james

promised to reply several messages at once, best place to do so is here on this forum. i'll try to avoid writing a novel..... so i will deal with various subjects in different post in this thread

what's in the zipfiles?

you've sent me two zipfiles with files you've backed up once, probably from your aircraft folder and from your ftp server. let's focus on the files from the ftp server, the foldername is "ah_bf109" it's in main folder of the eto_bf109e zipfile

the files are organized by time period (w40 and bob) and then by unit.

what version are we talking about

as noted in another thread, we're dealing with file version 2,95 or higher. the mark 2,95 stands for a certain level/standard of improvements/features of the template i made. in 2006 i stopped working on the aeroplane heaven emil, as all bob fighters i once worked on were to be replaced with either entire new models (bf109e) or improved and remapped models (hurricane and spitfire).
the last versions i released as FS aircraft (the jagdgeschwader 26 & jagdgeschwader 52 packages) were mk 2,95, based on the then latest 1% fm and damage profile......

in 2008/2009 i started to make versions to fly and/or to shoot at in eto, time period w40 and bob. these aricraft were to replace any fs version with the same number (example: w40_bf109e002 for fs_bf109e_02v2) i changed the folder names to match the time period (w40 for w40 and eto for bob so again w40_bf109e002 for fs_bf109e_02v2), i changed naming protocol for textures etc. textures are mk 2,95 or higher (as i kept on improving my template and retrofitting other aircraft to the latest standard), so these aircraft are different than the fs versions.

shared files and virtual cockpit

i created a new "shared files" folder called "eto_ahbf109e_shared" to distinguish them from the shared files for the fs_bf109e. included in the folder are shared textures for the exterior model, as well as textures for 3 different virtual cockpits: 2 aeroplane heaven cockpits and one by mike wholaver (back in 2006 wulfmann and me were granted permission to use the bf109f vc for the bf109e). so the original plan must have been to include a tutorial on what files to edit and how to, to get the original w40/eto emil virtual cockpit by the late gerard vd harst working as an optional 4th virtual cockpit. this required some editing of the aircraft.cfg file.

see the filelist/readme files for the various texture names. however i could not find both aeroplane heaven cockpits, or did i miss something? i have found them as well, so if required i could send them to you

flight model

the flight model was taken from the three w40 versions found in eto 1.0 and eto 1.1 (so w40_Bf109E-1 for e-1's, w40_Bf109E-3 for e-3 and w40_Bf109E-4 for e-4's). please keep in mind that these files are only beta files, so i could recommend checking every air (drone and flyable) file for stupid mistakes (or obsolete items). and i've never been an expert in making drones.......

the original aeroplane heaven emil had working leading edge slats to be used with the spoiler key. loved this feature, any possibility the leading edge slats to be brought back?????

more to come later on this weekend

Wow! Thanks for all that information Ton.:applause: I really like the spread sheet; very useful.

Just to say what I am doing with your various stand alones.

All Bf109E's
If etoxxxx or w40xxxxx, I have sent them also to others to text the FM 4.xxx which they have.
I have changed all pit m3d's to Mike W's version and added a dynamic reticle as from MajorM's list for use with Ankor shaders
The xdp file has been changed to have added virtual cockpit views, added sytem/damage box, and effect lines.

If still fsxxxxv2, I am updating the FM to be the same as the eto/w40 versions and sending for testing. Other alterations as above.
The issue with these is the texture dds files which are not as good as your eto/w40 ones.

Also all texture files are 1024 not 2048. Changing the quality and size of texture.dds files isn't something I can do. Do you still have all the templates and original file layers?

All Hurricanes.

None of these have upgraded FM's. I have passed them to Rob Capt. Winters for help and then I can copy.
Pits and xdp files will be updated as above.

The spitfires and bombers I have got to yet, but basically all the same things apply. Bomber cockpits were never much developed beyond the old ones as I think the modders all moved on to other things.

being a bit "neurotic" and "peculiar" about certain things somethings turns out to be quite handy :)

have some more good news for you..... found a very old backup folder with one of the early beta versions of eto (as we all had to re-install several times due to upgrades) and in that folder i found some emils with fs_prefix. some of them are marked 2,95. you'll find a list of those planes in the second tab of the spreadsheet.

aircraft marked 2,95 on that list (#39, #46, #83, #90, #100, #101, #102, #107, #108 and #114) could be converted to w40/eto as well. you already have the textures for #100, #101 and @102, as these aircraft were part of the 9./JG 52 package i once released. the other aircraft of that package have already been converted to w40/eto and also have 2048 textures (#96, #97, #98 and #99)

Also all texture files are 1024 not 2048. Changing the quality and size of texture.dds files isn't something I can do. Do you still have all the templates and original file layers?
i would leave the 1024 textures for what they are right now, as simply enlarging the files will not enhance them (you'll probably enlarge any visible flaws in the texture, compare it with that small piece of dust on a slide, that turns out to be a major spot once projected on a screen)
i had to make new base templates for all 2048 textures for any aircraft i repainted. the good news is i still have a lot of templates, 1024 and 2048, not all, and i found some notes describing the different steps from merging all layers untill exporting a bmp file, ready for conversing to dds.
26 of these 76 aircraft already have 2048 textures, those aircraft have not been provided with optional 1024 textures. you'll notice the difference when you check the filesizes (683 kb for 1024, 2731 kb for 2048)...
so i think i probably should be able to update/upgrade all bf109e textures (one day) if desired...... i'll work on a list of templates to add to the spreadsheet (yes, another list!!!!!!)

spotted some hurricanes and spitfires in that backed up eto folder, will check the fileversion later on and will let you know. all hurricanes officially released by me were pre-eto......

regarding other aircraft...... having found my notes and having found a number of templates i should be able to do some work on other aircraft as well (i don't know if the 3d models for the do17z, bf110c, he111-h and ju87b have changed).....
however, i have good hopes you've also backed up all other aircraft i uploaded to your fileserver.....

Hi Ton

AFAIK no 2048 et0_bf's and only 2048 from w40_bf109e078 on.

BTW have you been following the thread on bump maps?

EDIT I am also changing all the short names to eto_bf109e004 etc so they fit in with fs numbers in QC somewhat.

xdp files

guns, bombs and effects

the xdp file is based on the last 1% files before the release of eto (version V2.83.58). unfortunately the ah 3d model has less hardpoints than the w40/eto emil. damage profiles and effects have never been my cup of tea, but i did make some changes.

most likely i've replaced old 1% guns and cannons with w40/eto versions. i probably did the same with the effects and their values, however i can't tell you if these changes i made were improvements or not, as the aircraft still needed to be tested....

there is a major difference between the w40 emils and their bob counterparts: in the w40 period the bf109e was not used as "fighter-bomber", but as a pure fighter. bob was well underway before bombs were fitted to the bf109e. so w40 emils should not be able to carry bombs/external fuel tanks.
during w40 the bf109e-1 was fitted with machineguns in the wings. it was only during bob that these wing machineguns were being replaced by wing cannons (actually upgrading the bf109e-1 to bf109e-3 standards), so the w40 bf109e-1's should have wing machineguns, the bob bf109e-1's will have wing cannons

period

w40 emils entered service around 10-01-1939 (october 1st 1939) and left service around 06-30-1940 (june 30th 1940)
bob emils entered service around 06-30-1940 (june 30th 1940) and left service 06-30-1941 (june 30th 1941)

category and picktypes

the category is "fighter_bomber". i added several picktypes, this was in 2008/2009 a feature i wanted to explore.
it originally started with some experiments i did with a ship convoy facility file. the original file called for "destroyers" as escorts. i added picktype "de" (destroyer escort) to the facility. i did the same with the xdp file from some of the standalones i had made from the groundcrew flower class corvette. i made a test mission with the old and the new file. the game spawned tribal class destroyers for the old file and flower class corvettes for the new file.
so my theory was that it should be possible to spawn aircraft in missions based on picktypes: example, i gave #4 (Bf109E-3 9./JG 26 9) the following values:

Category fighter_bomber
PickType jg26,iiijg26,9jg26,yellow9,bf109e

let's say you make a bob raf recon mission above the calais area and you want your aircraft to be intercepted by jagdgeschwader 26 emils. you could make trigger points and spawnfiles with picktype jg26. running that mission any aircraft with jg26 should be spawned as interceptor, no matter what particular jagdgeschwader 26 emils you have installed. and so it should be easier to share missions with others (you don't need to have the same aircraft installed to fly the mission, as long as you have any jg26 emil installed with picktype jg26.......
but again this was the theory in 2008/2009. afaik it's never been tested in spawnfiles, but worked in facility files......

missing link(s)

the link to the help file and the checklist is obviously not working as they are not included

i could recommend comparig the xdp file with the last fs versions from 2006 if you want to know the difference

textures again

Hi Ton.....
AFAIK no 2048 et0_bf's and only 2048 from w40_bf109e078 on.

you should look for the folder called ah_bf109e. this is the folder that was backed up from your fileserver and it's in the main folder of the eto_bf109e rar file. this folder contains all aircraft that are contained in the w40_bf109e.rar file you've sent me. this folder also contains all aircraft in the eto_bf109e.rar main folder, and some more.
you'll find rar files and extracted folders. rar files with emils with 2048 textures are about 5,2 mb in size, rar files with emils with 1024 textures are about 3,2 mb in size

BTW have you been following the thread on bump maps?

no sorry, i don't think i can be of any assistance with the new vc features :)

EDIT I am also changing all the short names to eto_bf109e004 etc so they fit in with fs numbers in QC somewhat.

feel free to do so

that should not be a problem, now i have them anyway and btw so do you (just download the eto_bf109e rar file you uploaded to wetransfer :p )

found some more aircraft that are post 2006 (so mk 2,95), will update the spreadsheet tomorrow and upload them to wetransfer as well

yes, those files have the 2018 textures

these files have the mark 2,95, found them in the depths of my digital backups :)

running a full scale inventory. apparantly i've lost several installs and their backups. found some templates from a more recent date than the compiled textures, found some templates from aircraft, but not the aircraft itself and i found some aircraft i needed to start working on.....and some are completely missing
it will take some days before i have a complete list of aircraft, textues and templates, so will come back to you, hopefully this weekend, if not beginning next week

spreadsheet v1.1

here's an updated version of the spreadsheet.

going to cook now, will come back to see if you have any questions.....

unreleased versions

hi james

some aircraft have never been released, that's why you're missing them. check your email for some conversions from mk 2,95 to mk 3 (w40/eto standards). (#100, #101, #102, #125, #126)
go to my bed now, will come back tomorrow with info etc :)
changed some foldernames, so attached final version of the spreadsheet for today :)

ps: is there a way to get the moseditor working in windows 10, and how about the m3d viewer. found a backup "vanilla folder", but could not make the shortcut to run cfs 3 in m3d view mode
