FPS too low on campaign.

Ok here goes.
I got like 15-10 fps on campaign missions, and constant 30-25 ( have set the fps limit to 30) on quick combat. Thats strange... sliders 4/2/2/4/1
P4 3.2GhZ
ATI HD4670 512MB DDR3
3.5 GB RAM DDR2
Win XP SP2 32bit.

Thought it was kinda strange as the other ATI guys had fps probs here as well but I dont think that the campaign had anything to do with it..
Have tried all the tweaks here (in cfsconfig) and have set the resolution to max and the AA as well.
Any ideas?

Well I have tried every single AA setting but nothing.
It seems that the big problems are above the lines (while they are in bombardment) and in the vicinity of airbases. 12 fps average on these areas. When cruising on other zones however, I get a nice 25-30 fps. Nevertheless, they are pretty low fps for my system I think.. I would expect about 20-25 fps on worst occassions but not this.
I will keep trying on reinstalling drivers for my ATI card. It seems that it is an ATI issue...if you got any other ideas reply here..

Have you tried setting your resolution to the very highest setting? This has worked on several systems (even though it sounds strange).

Try setting sliders 2,2,2,2,2 and bump up resolution to highest level if you have not done that.

Is it really jerky and does it stutter, or is it fairly smooth? Also, are you getting any white flashing of the terrain or does the terrain break up at all?

No break up. Absolutely no graphic anomalies whatsoever. And I get some stuttering (not much). During dogfights at 5k feet while turning around and see different stuff, I get some stuttering. The fps is less on take offs and above the front. If I get involved in a dogfight over the front I get some stuttering there. The strange thing is that when I approach the airfield to land, the fps is 15-20 which is rather good and can land well.

Evidently they fixed the "glitch" that caused the fps to take a nose dive over airfields in Phase 2, maybe that's the reason landing is easier.

I hate to be a pest, but have you tried to disable fog in workshop, using cfs3.config? I ask this because I recall years ago that ATI cards had trouble rendering fog in the Battlefront series of games. From your posted pictures, it seems the fps slowdown mainly occurs near the front where an artillery bombardment is kicking up lots of dirt and fog. Perhaps this is a re-occurrence of that problem?

I've also been having the problem with slowdowns over the front during a major battle, tried turning fog off but the Smoke and Gas was still there and I still get the slowdown.

here are my specs:

Intel Pentium D 940 3.2Ghz
ATI Radeon HD 3870 512mb
2.0 Gb RAM
Windows XP SP2

Is it possible to somehow disable the large Ground Offensives and have everywhere "All Quiet on the Western Front"? As whenever I get a mission to somewhere away from the Major ground battles it runs fine, even over the front when there's an Artillery Attack.

I'll be upgrading my Processor to an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.33Ghz in afew days, so hopefully that will help abit.

I guess you could fly in Alsace. It's usually pretty quiet there. There are a lot of trees and hills, though. I don't know if that will slow you down.

My laptop will produce 18fps near the ground, but at 10,000' it's up near 55fps. Perhaps all that beautiful scenery comes at a performance price.

This is an old, well known issue, with some low/medium spec PCs - I am also effected by it. It was there in Phase 2, but not so much in Phase 1 (there were fewer airfields in Phase 1, I think).

I believe that it has something to do with these airfields - each airfield in sight appears to have a cumulative effect on your FPS, so the effect is slightly less when taking off and coming into land - because you are lower down, and only your own airfield is usually in sight.

If there is a 'tweak' that will cure this, then I would also like to hear of it - but I don't think there is :(

My specs: Athlon 3400+, 1 GB RAM, ATI 9800 Pro, Win XP SP3

I also get FPS in mid 20s to mid 30s when out of sight of airfields, about 15 FPS or less coming in to land (it depends how close it is to another airfield), but 10 around 10 FPS when in sight of multiple airfields or when over the Front at medium altitude. I have my sliders on 1 or 2.

I am saving up for a better system...

i have locked fps to 30

inside the default folder in game and the stutter is gone.

i have duel core with sly and will try it on my other gamer when i have the time. hopefully by this weekend

the mission builder/ now thats another story we must get into.

nothing shall deter us from enjoying this stupendous ww-1 history lesson.

a word to the developer's and O.F.F. team. you have done an exceptional job here and we have full knowledge in knowing you will address and solve any problems that may arise.

all new products require update patches; why would O.F.F. be any different.
thanks for all you do.

I have an old BFG 6800GTX-Ultra if you fancy it (AGP). Going by that link above it looks like it should give you a few more FPS. :)

Thanks Siggi!

I appreciate the offer, but I would also need a better PSU to run a newer or souped-up AGP card...I looked into this a few months back, and decided that, given the age of my motherboard, RAM, processor etc. I would be far better relegating my current PC to family use and RB3D, and putting all my savings towards a new one, particularly as it is a very stable and reliable setup for everything else (and I am not computer savy enough to mess around with it without causing problems). I am not so far off having enough now for a new dual core E8500 / 9800 GTX+ machine with 4 GB RAM and Vista, which I guess should run OFF (and BoB II) just fine.

I appreciate the offer though - very kind of you :)

"I've found the FPS hit due to airfields is not as severe in P3 as it was in P2" That is good news, SirMike :)

lemme know when yopu upgrade as I have same processor and which duo are you gonna get e.g 8400 8500 etc.....

I'll be getting an E8600, should be here and installed by Tommorow, so I'll let you know if I notice and difference. :p
