Free Grass texture

Hey everyone.
I was researching Grass textures for a Scenery project i am working on, and found this......
Its at FS-Freeware,net.
It looks really good in sim....

Ahhh, I thought you were asking about 3D grass. My bad.

Looks offly similar to REX grass ground detail. Mind you, these are usually replacements for the detail1.bmp FSX bump map texture. It is a good idea to back it up before replacing it. It will be applied to all ground surfaces so you may not like it on surfaces other than grass.

3d grass is something I always wanted to make but haven't managed to do so yet.

I tried the link from Trucker17 and this is what is looks like for me. Fortunately, I made a back up. My grass doesn't resemble anything like the enclosed photo.
Wonder if Rex was required for the grass to look as advertised?

Try either the texture resolution slider in the display menu or "TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048" or "TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096" in the fsx.cfg.

I tried all suggestions and no remedy. Thank anyway. I'll just put everything back like it was.


Edit: I found this link interesting and may be the reason I am not getting that grass effect.

I also notice that the green (grass) looks a bit on the blurry side.

How Green is the grass.

I finally figured out why I was not seeing the grass textures. After "Monkeying" around in the settings, I noticed that the land class detail was not checked.

How do you get the 2D look?


I'd like to get the settings display mode without having to load a plane in FSX and then go to options/display.

I like the 2D look. It adds more detail to the scenery anyways.

Been using this one for years, settled on it after trying many other alternatives. Small details can make a big difference.
Glad you got things sorted out.

The problem with these detail maps is that they drape over everything, e.g. landclass textures and photo scenery. And some custom textures introduce a repetetive pattern on the ground, which can look ungainly.
