Freeware Grumman Duck

I just followed the above instructions for downloading it, and the file has been completely removed.
As a moderator, i cant say anything more. Needless to say furious is an understatement.. But at least we are moving in the right direction to help restore this wonderful little aircraft to its rightful place..

(Sorry for the hasty post... I left out a step ! ) :pop4:

I edited my post above:

Reason: CORRECTED DOWNLOAD PROCEDURE

FYI: The download link still works directly out of the Google cache of that web page.

CAVEAT: I believe Google may stop caching downloads linked from the top level of cached web pages after several days or possibly weeks, so download it ASAP...while you still can ! :iidea:

Happy Flying !

Update on the FSX flight dynamics tweaks for this bird. All gauges are working, take offs are great, landings are great, flying is great, handling is great. The one thing I have not been able to figure out is how to get this bird to stop on the water. I was able to get it down to 10KIAS but the tweak I did to get it to that prevented the plane from getting over 48KIAS on take off runs. Anyone have any ideas?

Oh..and fuel consumption and range are off....but from what I understand getting those two things dialed in give even the FDE Wizards gray hairs.

Thanks GaryGB for explaining how to download this file, it worked like a charm.

Thanks Moderators and Admins for your investigations, opening this topic again and clarifying the situation, very appreciated.

Thanks SWingman for this beautifull model, I can't wait to test it tonight after work !

And big thanks to all the guys here who keep posting corrections to improve this model.

Just had to say that.

GaryGB, sorry, but I'm getting nowhere with your method of getting this model. I just come back to the 'file removed' page.

Hopefully the file will be restored as a normal download.

Hello again:

Using FireFox 3.6.16 in Windows XP Pro (without the "Windows Firewall" running), when I click on the "Download" link at the far right end of the bottom line of links below the original JFJ2F Duck package blurb in my Step 3.) as I described above:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforu...e-Grumman-Duck&p=572778&viewfull=1#post572778

...I am prompted to allow access permission in my '3rd party' software firewall.

FYI: I allowed this in my software firewall ! :iidea:

My Local Port: 2412
AVSIMRUS "re-written" Download web page IP: 93.158.1134.190
Domain: mc.yandex.ru

NOTE: The above works in FireFox regardless of whether I check or un-check "Block Pop-up Windows" via:

FireFox Menu > Tools > Options > 'Content' Tab > "Block Pop-up Windows"

Perhaps one's browser version responds differently to Windows "Internet Options" set via:

Control Panel > Internet Options > 'Security' Tab > 'Custom Level' Button > "Security Settings"

FYI: If I use Internet Explorer 6.x I also do NOT get the web page re-written with a 'green box' and "HTTP (EU)" link and the original JFJ2F Duck package blurb as above; instead, all I get is:

"File was removed or inaccessible"

Hope this additional info might possibly help others to access the download ! :mixedsmi:

PS: Our posts crossed on the server while I was composing this; many thanks to kilo delta for your clarification here: :applause:

so pretty
Great Screenies! So many lines and curves on this beauty!

Glad this one's out

As a younger man, I built the Airfix 1/72nd scale version of this thing several times. I'm glad it has been cleared.

Can't really understand the previous confusion. I mean, just the briefest glance at:
1. where the front body comes into the float (the small shelf it forms);
2. the canopy framing

Simply can't understand anyone confusing the two!

Anyway, great job SWingman! Can't wait to try it out.

Me again:

Although I don't get "under the hood" with aircraft very often, I do sometimes like to maximize the awesome sound of big radials when I can find an accurate (but very loud !) sound set which is true to the type of engine originally used in classic airplanes. :p:

I guess I could make do with some of the previous suggestions for sound sets in the threads here at SOH about the Grumman Duck (thanks for those !), but I must confess I also want to add the really powerful "prop snarl" that this aircraft has in the videos I've seen (I'm not sure if the real engine sounds were used in the movie "Murphy's War"... but I liked them !).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aED7xvYbMfw&feature=related

Heh-Heh-Heh... why do I get the feeling the last video (at 4:08) shows what OBIO was doing while tweaking this Duck's 'Air' file:

"Fly, you bastard ...FLY !" (my favorite movie "quote" for Peter O'Toole) :icon_lol:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murphy%27s_War

If I had my 'druthers, I'd like to adjust the assigned prop pitch axis on my Saitek X52 HOTAS 'Throttle' and thereby vary the intensity of the "prop snarl" sound.

Is it possible (via ex: the Sound.Cfg file) to add another sound "layer" for a great warbird type 3-blade prop on top of a reasonably compatible R-1820 radial engine sound set, so one has a "prop snarl" that can be "trimmed" to some extent with a variable pitch prop configuration on this Grumman Duck model ?

I'd be very grateful for some suggestions on how this might be done, and what in your opinion as knowledgeable "warbird" enthusiasts, is a good 'isolated' "prop snarl" sound WAV file (one that doesn't also have a lot of perceptible engine sound underlying the "prop snarl" sound itself).

Bueller ? Bueller ? ...Anyone ? ...Anyone ?

Thanks in advance ! :)

[EDITED]
PS: The engine for the Grumman OA-12 Duck used in "Murphy's War" was a Wright R-1820-54 1,050 hp variant.
