FS Global Ultimate - Next Generation

Here is another set of screen grabs from the Southern Alps (Nice to Cuneo). The landclass is being generated by OrbX Global Vector which was also developed by FS Global (according to their website), so Vector and NextGen should get along pretty well in theory. I tried to take reasonable fair screenshots and focus on the average appearance. The location of the rock faces are consistently well placed (trees/greenery on gentle slopes and rock faces on steep slopes), while the roads and streams are bit mixed.

On the whole, I'm still quite happy....but everyone has their own standards especially for such an expensive addon.

Thanks for posting the images, John! Looks quite good!

Cheers,

My understanding from the ftx website is that vector is only coastlines, waterwaya and roads

With only ftx vector instated you will only see default or non orbx landclass

For orbx landclass you will need the ftx gobal landclass addon or ftx regions

I'm thinking that is correct, Vector alone isn't going to do a lot without Global Landclass at least.
BTW, thanks for the contact Matt.
:encouragement:

Jeansy is correct.

Also, if you have PNW, the region, installed, it comes with its own mesh, and I'm not sure that the new mesh has higher priority. It may be that the sim always uses the highest resolution available. But it may be that the region settings override. It's also not clear to me that Ultimate has higher resolution than the region to begin with. Region mesh resolution is pretty high.

Sorry, I should have made that more clear. These shots were with FTX Global Base + FTX Global Vector, with Global Vector (waterways and roads) being developed by FS Global (the company).

FTX PNW has a 10 meter mesh while FS Global has a 1 meter mesh. I can fiddle around with the scenery config tonight and confirm which is being displayed.

I flew this same route (from the first set of screenshots) before installing FS Global NextGen, and it looked significantly different from my recollection.

The problem with ftx sceneries and regions according to the manual you need to set mesh at 10m any higher will cause floating buildings

I first noticed this when i had my mesh set at 5 then read the manuals and then fixed the problem

Its a catch 22 start a flight at 10 then shift to 5 then shift back to 10 when its timw to land

I would say you would have this meah lower in the scenery order in order for ftx regions to work correctly

Today the DVD arrived and I anstalled Asia to have a look. Unfortunately (for my wallet), FreemeshX is better, at least in that part of Asia where I do most of my flying. Hopefully the FSGUNG team updates the SEA part in the future with a more detailed mesh.

Compared to default, anything is better though.

Thanks for the comparison Mark. Seeing is believing. I ordered over two weeks ago when the topic surfaced. I was told after 10 days with my order still waiting to be shipped it would be well over a month before delivery. No I am not so anxious for the delivery. I have Global 2010. Hopefully the upgrade will be better than that.

That default shot is a giggle isn't it. I've been flying around Norway recently and remembered I'd bought FSGenesis Norway maybe a year ago and never installed it. The transformation was exactly as shown between the first two shots and the last one!! As you say.. ANYTHING is better than default:encouragement:

I would normally be happy to help, but there was an incident involving my toddler and DVD#7 (Oceania mesh) before it made it into the DVD drive. FSG sent me a replacement disk (free), but it hasn't arrived yet. Will post some shots when it does.

Thats understandable, no rush

The replacement DVD arrived, and here are some screenshots for Christmas Island. A few other items learned over the past few weeks:

- For the OrbX NA areas there is a difference between the OrbX mesh and the FSG mesh, but I would not call it significant. I.e., You can see the difference in side by side screenshots, but I'm not convinced that someone could fly in a random mesh and pick which one was active (given the setting below).

- FSG boasts a 1 meter mesh for certain locations, but I was getting OOM's in every flight (P3Dv3.4) and had to scale back to a 5 meter mesh.

- As Jeansy noted, there can be some floating buildings in finer mesh areas, but it wasn't too terrible in the NA and European locations I tried with the 5 meter setting (though there were certainly a few eye sores).

Thanks for the images JohnC. I received my DVD's today and have Global Ultimate loaded in Prepar3d_V3. Before the installation I had some elevation problems just next to Nellis AFB that turned out were cause by FTX_AC_SC. They were ridges in the flat desert that extended for quite a ways. With FTX_AC_SC disabled they were gone so I know what cause the problem.

With Pilots Global Ultimate installed all is perfect. Now see below the area next to Nellis for what this mesh will do to photoreal textures.

Definitely see a very nice improvement over Global Mesh 2010. For me this was money well spent. Hope this helps those on the fence.

thanks, I was hoping for something close to real life, but unfortunately the mesh is far from it and couldnt be any further from the truth but it still better than stock mesh i guess, on another note something has to be done with the incorrect land class
