FS-KBT L-188 Electra full FSX out

There is a major error in the KBT model (IMHO). Underneath the fuselage and extending just past both inboard nacelles, there is some form of "flap" (or gravel guard) that is perpendicular to the flight path. This is not normal for a typical L-188. I am aware that Reeve had some form of gravel guard to allow operation with gravel strips in Alaska, but IF this supposed to represent that configuration, the "flap' also extends through the main gear strut in each nacelle. I have a lot of L-188 references - and have never seen anything like this. Anyone have any idea what this is supposed to represent (it is modeled well and has normal textues)?

LOL, I think we need a single definitive sticky thread for this.
 
The VC seems rather flawed. Many switches don't seem to work, and lots share the same tooltips. Could only managed to start no.1 engine via the VC. The others could be started with the 2d panel.

Feels like a beta rather than a finished model.

I'm not a fan of the bump mapping on this one. It seems a little too strong, especially around the windows. Obviously something like that can be edited, so I'm not too fussed about it, but it would be nice to see that area improved (this is on the Atlantic Airlines livery).
 
I couldn't find any documentation in the FSX download but the Readme refers to Paul Strogens L188 panel. I've downloaded that and there is quite a lot of information about the aircraft and panel. I am just printing it off now but I hope it will show how to start all the engines.
 
Attached is a screen-shot of the "flap" that I see under the L-188. I now wonder if it's a SP2 / Accel versus SP1 problem (I use FSX SP1 by choice).

Just looked on mine, and there's no sign of the "flap" in your pic.
Same model & texture. Running FSX + Accel here.
 
Stunning modeling and texturing, but if even the most basic systems like engine starters refuse to work properly...no, thanks.

I appreciate the effort though.
 
I'm happy with my Aero Union modified FS2004 P-3 version. It seems to be prettier than the new FSX one, actually. Those guys are great, and their FS2004 P-3 was probably the best looking aircraft of it's day, and it was free!

On SP2/acc its not there(at least visible)
If you know the texture of it you work the alpha channel and it will become invisible

It comes off the original P3 with lower radardome,probably the rear wall forgotten by the designer

My L-188 panel was designed for FS2004.

The KBT team asked my permission to use the panel
and I gave it. However, the starter code for FS2004 is
quite different from the FSX starter code and they would
have had to make changes to my code for it to work in FSX.

I a couple of brief emails from the KBT team they indicated that there 'were some problems' and that they
made changes. However they did not give me any details.

I have downloaded the 2 models but do not have time
now to look into any problems. Sadly I will be busy for
at least the next three weeks and will be away from
my 'sim' computer much of that time.

EDIT: I just installed the passenger model and did a quick checkout and
made a test hop.
I was able to start all 4 engines but it required using the 2D overhead
panel starter and engine select switches and 'flipping' the engine
select while the starter was engaged until the original selected engine
started. Then repeating that for each of the other engines.
This is because the starter code is my original FS2004 code.

I'm pretty certain I can 'fix' that so that the engine select and starter on the
2D panel work as they should.
However, the VC 3d switches/functions are hard-coded into the VC model
and I can't do anything to change the operation, or non-operation of those
switches.

I won't be able to get to this for a few weeks as I am hopping a plane early
Wednesday morning. I will get to it, so please be patient.

Running SP1, this "flap" occurs here too.
I thought I did something wrong... :engel016:

Having logged lots of hours with the 2004 P-3C (and even more hours repainting the Aurora), I'm a little disappointed... :kilroy:

L-188 Starter fix

OK, I had a little time today to investigate the KBT L-188
starter issues.

There is a disconnect between the VC starter switch and
engine select and the 2D upper panel starter switch and the engine select.

My starter code resides in the 2D upper panel. That is the
only starter code I have "access" to and could revise so that
it worked in FSX.

The code revision affects only one XML file:

L188_Starter.xml

This file is located in the folder "PS_L188"

Unzip the attached file and replace the existing "L188_Starter.xml".

To start the KBT engines you must open the upper 2D panel.
Locate the 5-position "START" engine select switch.
Use this switch to select the engine you wish to start.

NOTE:
The switch on the VC upper panel does not function!!

Also on the 2D upper panel, press the green button to
the right of the "START" engine selector.

The engine "starter engaged" light for the selected engine
should illuminate in the lamp panel between the "START"
selector and the green button.
The lamp will go out once the engine spools up above
8300 RPM.
The green button should also pop out at that point.

Repeat the procedure for the other engines.

DO NOT use the green "Starter Switch" on the VC upper
panel. This may interfere with the starter logic and, in
any case, will only start engine #1.

The XML code is 'quick and dirty' as I've very limited time
to spend on this right now.
