FS Panel Studio

Just a simple question here:
Can I take any gauge used in a virtual cockpit and modify it and reuse it in another VC using FS Panel Studio?
I need to make sure of this before I spend my few $$ to buy this software.
Thanks,
Sid

As you are asking about this in the FS9 forum I would say usually yes but there may be the odd exception.

If you were asking in the FSX forum I would say maybe on an older or freeware model but definitely not on an aircraft with FSX 3D gauges as they are part of the model.

Having said that I find FS Panel Studio to be an invaluable tool for modifying both VCs and pop-up panels in FS9. As a 'tweaker' I couldn't be without it now.

In regard to your question just bear this in mind too, while it may be OK to take gauges out of one plane and put them into another plane for your own use you cannot then make those changes available to anyone else without first getting the permission of the original gauge creator. Gauges are covered by copyright just like the models are.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am assuming that you are an FS Panel Studio user.
I wonder how tough it is to build your own gauges for virtual cockpit use through FS Panel Studio?

Thanks again,
Sid

Yes I use it but I have never made my own gauges, just modified/replaced lots of existing ones.

There are actually quite a few airplanes in FS9 where the author for one reason or the other chose to place the gauges in the VC panel within it's 3D design program and not made a relatively simple flat surface that can then be populated using FSPS or a simple text editor.

Not to discourage you from buying the program, I have it and love it, but you might want to look carefully at which aircraft specifically you think of working on.
For example our Connies and Manfred's C-47 would not lend themselves to FSPS for VC work while I think mostnof Sir Milton's latest creations can be massaged to your hearts content.

Making gauges is still no simple task. But it is a bit easier than without the program.

Cheers
Stefan

I use FS Panel Studio A LOT....I swap and move gauges almost daily. I have not used it to modify existing gauges though. Just move and replace. The program is well worth the money!

Ditto! I've had it since I first purchased FS9 and a day later I was addicted and never looked back. Money well spent and for the occasions where it doesn't lend itself to replacing a 3D gauge there are thousands of cases where it works to perfection. You won't regret the purchase "IF" you intend to use it til it drops, lol. To just move a few gauges on a few airplanes. . . .nope.:salute:

I do some panel work too. But, I do it the "ole trial and error" method. What really drives me crazy is when there are more than one VC panels. When that's the case I'm limited by where I can place the gauges. I guess that would obtain even if I had FS Panel Studio. The other day, I took a look at the PT-19 panel. Lordy there's a vc for each instrument. I wanted mag switches so I had to substitue them for the clock.

Folks, thank you so much for your input. However, if you could please give me a direct answer to this question (maybe there are ni direct answers): is it possible for a non-braniac to build NEW gauges using FS Panel Studio for virtual cockpit use?
Thanks,
Sid

Can you use FS Panel Studio to take an existing XML based gauge and modify it into a new gauge. Technically, yes. The program does give you the interface to do that. Having the understanding and knowledge to do it....that doesn't come with the program. You must have some idea of coding and how the sim reads the long list of variables....or so I would imagine as I have none of this and have not been able to use the program modify a gauge.

I've had FS Panel Studio for years and love it. But, I've never tried to make a gauge with it either.
