FS9 / CFS2 DC-3.... what's with the decal ?

Thanks to all those that have contributed to porting the FS9 DC-3 into CFS2 - She's greatly appreciated :jump:

Just one question though.... what's with the CFS2 decal on the fuselage ? is it hard coded into the model ? I couldn't find it amongst the textures....

Cheers,

Pete

She seems to be an odd bird for that. I'm always a little perturbed at the mirror insignia on the top right wing and the bottom left wing. For RAF birds it's fine, but for US Gooney Birds it looks a bit odd.

yep, a tad different.... but still appreciated.

I opened up the .mdl in frhed and I think I found the related entry for the CFS2 decal. I've got no idea what to do with the entry though...

I did a search for " DECAL_NNUMBER.BMP " on my system and didn't find it....

Pete

btw, I just tried renaming this entry and it leaves a grey rectangle where the CFS2 decal was....

now.... where the heck is this .bmp located.....

:isadizzy:

hehehe... figured it out.....

This work around is for those who can't find the file DECAL_NNUMBER.BMP (such as me lol )

1. Back up your original Douglas_DC3.MDL

2. Using frhed, open up Douglas_DC3\model\Douglas_DC3.MDL . Find the entry " DECAL_NNUMBER.BMP " (Ctrl+F type in DECAL). Rename this entry to " DECAL_XXBLANK.BMP " (from memory I think its important for the hex entries to be the same lenght as the original).

3. Save your file then exit frhed.

4. Download the attached file: DECAL_XXBLANK.txt and rename it to DECAL_XXBLANK.BMP. (the forum doesn't like .bmp files with alpha channels)

5. Place it in your Douglas_DC3\texture folder.

6. Go for a fly :jump:

If someone wants to use this method and upload a new .mdl file together with my texture below, go for it.

Cheers,

Pete

Jag,

In theory I think it is possible to leave the main texture with no USAAF roundel and add it via the " decal_insignia_t0.bmp " on just one wing as per the default aircraft. Unfortunately I don't know enough about hex editing to work out positioning data though :isadizzy:

Anyone else out there more proficient with hex editing like to have a go or advise if it's possible ?

Cheers

Pete

Eek....that's all beyond me Pete. Can you get permission to upload a modified mdl and bmp in one package?

Bill said .... :Banane09:

The package has been uploaded.

This is a simple mod. Credit for the conversion remains with simonu and the great panel work by Captain Mercy, respectively.

Cheers,

Pete

Thanks to everyone who sorted the FS 9 C-47 out. It's a great plane in CFS 2 and for those long distance trips accross Maskrider's Pacific ferry route, it's an outstanding choice.

Excellent fix AGAS:ernae: ..I'm having a problem with the SBD I'm about to upload...every time I enrich the mixture before start the program crashes!!!??? any ideas anybody?

Hey captmercy, I forgot to say your welcome ...

btw, I took your radio panel idea and made up my own version....

This is my only 2d panel in the DC-3. I start up and fly in 3d, hit F4 to get to this panel and F4 to get back again.

I did some gauge bitmap editing to the GPS units and the radio. The radio is great - It's linked to the song0/1/2/3 files which I edited to hold about 10 meg of actual WW2 commercial radio and music. Helps the immersion factor flying on a long haul to Pearl Harbor and listening to news broadcasts describing the japanese attack there.

Cheers,

Pete

Still a work in progress at the moment ....

I do have a couple of problems though:

1. Like I mentioned, I've done my own mods to a few of the gauges.... haven't actually sort permission for any redistribution of them .....

2. I've got a very wide screen, and the gauges are positioned to match. The last time I moved a homemade panel from this pc to one with a standard monitor, the gauges were out of wack....

I am more than happy to upload just the panel bitmap for people to put their own gauges in.....
