FS9 in Windows 8.1?

While successfully dealing with another issue on my machine this morning, I was reminded Microsoft will terminate support for Windows XP, no matter the service pack, in April 2014. The Microsoft site is recommending upgrading to Windows 8.1. I've attempted to search this forum for advice, however, after two inputs of keywords I only came up with about 500 entries each time. So to simplify matters - based on the totality of experience of those who frequent the forum, and use Windows 8.1 with FS9, will there be any issues or headaches with the sim following changeover of operating systems from Windows XP SP3 to Windows 8.1? Thanks!

Check the online PC outlets. It's been a few months, but last I checked, you can still get well-equipped rigs with Win7 installed for a decent price. That's how I got this laptop. The machines are marked to the business/production demographic who don't want Win8, but still need performance.

Hi,
this computer is windows 8 and all I've done, after being advised here!! is to install FS9 in C: Microsoft Games, rather than in the C: Programs/ FS9 etc. So far it all works really well, no smoke or flames.:redfire:

Thanks all for the replies. My recently deceased mother-in-law may have bought me a dedicated FS machine, used only for flying. I've always wanted to do that, leave the internet connection for downloading current weather but otherwise put all additions into the sim after downloading onto another machine then transferring via thumb drive or network to the "dedicated" machine. With that goal in mind going the Windows 7 route may be the proper path to take. I can then activate Windows 8.1 on the main machine after FS has been moved over.

When I am ready for this step I will be back in contact with everyone for some fine points to consider.

Again, many thanks for the ideas!
