FS9for the road

I’m going down to visit my Dad in Red Lodge, MT in 3 weeks or so. For years I have been trying to describe the FS9 experience to him but, as you all well know, words don’t really do the trick. My thought is to load FS9 on to my laptop computer, which is going to be making the trip with me in any case. My question is; what will be he best way to do it? Should I do a clean install with at least some of my favorite mods and aircraft? Is it possible, or even a good idea, to just copy my desktop installation on to my laptop’s HD? This is just a temporary installation so that I can show FS to Dad. What do you think is the best way to proceed? Thanks for helping.

I have fs9 running on an Acer Aspire laptop 'for the road' as you put it, as I'm often away for work.
I started with a clean install; then added some of my favourite add-ons, depending on the graphics utility, processor and memory et al on the laptop you may have to adjust settings to get best performance.

hope this helps

I use flight sims on my lap top when traveling too. It has a pretty good graphics card and a duel core chip, but it will stutter once and a while when over detailed add on scenery, but overall it functions fine with FS 9.

My only issue is the joy stick. I'd like to find a mini joy stick for traveling that would fit into my luggage better.

I often use FS 9 to get the lay of the land before traveling to a new place. With good mesh and available updates for any given area, it is surprising how well FS 9 represents airfields and terrain of various areas of the world.

I use a USB gamepad, bit twitchy at times, but doesn't take up luggage space.

Yup, I've used my Xbox 360 controller for windows, two analogue sticks and analogue triggers, hat switch and several buttons, works quite well considering. Plus it's great for other games, driving, sports, fps, etc.
