I'm having a little trouble figuring out how to duplicate to make formations, like some are doing. A couple said they know how. Can I get a little assistance?

I record the main flight, select advanced play, select the file and make duplicates.

Then I convert it to text and ad the following lines and then make it a FRC again. When I load it, I only see the main aircraft. Why?

// Track 2
#Aircraft: "FA-18 Hornet"
#TailNumber: "N001"
#StaticCGtoGround: 6.90000
$Offset: 5 -2 -5 pbh
#Data: timestamp latitude longitude altitude pitch bank heading onground velocityX velocityY velocityZ elevators ailerons rudder throttle1 throttle2 spoilers flaps gear lights pa

do you use the PBH thing? or the rotation thing?

Thank you very much for the example!! That is what I needed, and I'll try it out tonight.

that offset in the example looks like a 45 metre trail to the left... how you offset it depends on the formation you can get... like -5, 0 , 5 will give a very close wingman if i recall...

I've not done much if anything with PBH. PBH stands for pitch, bank and heading and in my projects I've always wanted all the planes headed the same direction. The first three numbers in the offset control left right, up down, and front to back, but I can never remember which one is which and I always misplace my notes so I have to re-learn every project which number is which. I also think the numbers are feet and not meters.

You might have discovered this already, but in the folder that contains the new beta version of FSRecorder there is a folder called "Converter Samples" It has examples of all the different offsets that are available.

I've found that adding small little time offsets like 0.025 and 0.015 seconds to the tracks will produce nice little bouncing effects and it keeps the planes from looking like they're locked together.

Matthias has said that in upcoming versions of the recorder he plans to include options that'll let you add position and time offsets to the different planes in a formation even while you're in the advanced playback menu, which will save you the trouble of having to work with the converter.

hmm.

I've been a long time FSRecorder user, and I didn't even know this stuff existed.

The pbh flags are useful if you do formations, otherwise the planes don't follow the leader.
Here's one I did using p,b, and h

It should be pointed out that using FSRecorder with helicopters CAN be done, but it requires a bit of extra work with the helicopter files.

Here's a screenshot of the offset numbers that I posted earlier. On a closer look it looks like the numbers are indeed meters and not feet.

The tools for converting the frc to txt files and putting in other aircraft names and offsets has been available for awhile - but they were separate tools and a bit clunky to use, so its not surprising that you hadn't heard about them.

I'm still not placing it in the right spot. Your file looks like you don't have all the options turned om that I have, such as smoke and lights, making it look very different. I'm trying to create the blue angels diamond.

This is a mess!! the converter won't convert it back. it says something like "minimum data required is pitch, bank, heading....."

here's my 4th try to place the text right:

// Track 2
#Aircraft: "FA-18 Hornet"
#TailNumber: "N001"
#StaticCGtoGround: 6.90000
#Data: timestamp
$Offset: 5 -2 -5 pbh
latitude longitude altitude pitch bank heading onground velocityX velocityY velocityZ elevators ailerons rudder throttle1 throttle2 spoilers flaps gear lights parkbrake engine1 engine2 smoke
$Offset: 5 -2 -5 pbh 0.0588 27.6857489945 -97.2842504866 25.696 -3.005 0.000 315.079 1 -0.01012 0.00143 0.01015 0 0 0 95 95 0 0 1 0 1 1 1 0
1.0254 27.6857490243 -97.2842505201 25.697 -2.995 0.000 315.079

I'm using WordPad to make my edits to the text files.
Under the "View" menu in Wordpad you'll see options, click that and then select "No Wrap"
That will allow the numbers to all line up and it's much easier to insert your offset information. You can have more than one line of offset information, so if you wanted to have a time offset as well as a position offset, you'd just put that info under the position offset text.

In your sample I see you still have a line of offset instructions above the "latitude, longitutde, altitude---etc" line.
The offset info goes after that line. That could be what's screwing things up for you.

I trimmed the image to make the file size smaller so all the information being captured doesn't show in the screenshot.

You know, if you create a SoundAI folder under the each aircraft folder you're showing in FSRecorder and make a SoundAI.cfg that simply aliases the main sound folder for that aircraft, then in the actual sound folder make a copy of the sound.cfg and just rename it to soundAI.cfg, you'll hear appropriate engine sounds and not that aweful raspy cessna default sound for each aircraft.

Thanks Jetstreamsky,

That's very useful information as I often use FSRecorder to record a lot of things other than planes and I've often wanted a way to not have a Cessna sound running and still hear the sounds of the model.

Can I ask what program you use to convert?

I tried FRC-editor but I can't find the string offset...

The latest beta version of the FSRecorder is 2.4 I think. It's available at the the recorder website

http://www.fs-recorder.net/downloads.php

The frc files recorded by version 2 are quite different than those recorded by the earlier versions. The FRCconverter.exe file version 2.0 is contained in the files that you get when you download a copy of the beta version.

In the same package there is a folder that's labeled "Converter Samples" and it has 7 txt files that are examples of the different offsets that people can edit into their own files.

the newest and greatest FSRecorder comes with a converter that is accessible through the start menu.

that sound like Matthias is preparing the ultimate formation replay tool:jump:

X_eidos2 one question,
if I have more than two planes in formation how to I get a nice delta with three planes or diamond with four planes

I mean ok the offset to track2 is the difference calculated to track1 but what Offset to I need to give Track3 or Track4 is it also Calculated as difference to Track1 ?

thanks in advance

BR
Tom

You would just make two additional tracks using copies of the data from track one. The offsets are in relation to the plane in track one since that is the plane that you are making the copies from. The -10 number in the track 2 offset would be positive 10 to put the plane on the opposite side of the lead plane. To put a fourth plane in the trail position, it's offset would be $Offset= -80 0 0 . You might want to have it $Offset= -80 -4 0 so it's a little bit lower than the lead plane.

If you have planes that have different tail numbers - you'd want to make the names of the plane in each track match the name of the plane model that you want flying that track.
