Here is the support request that I sent to Abacus and their reply. I am wondering if anyone here can help by making the new props for the Hawkeye and the COD

I am currently repainting the E2C Hawkeye from my Flight Deck 5 with great success as an E2C of VAW126 currently aboard USS Harry Truman having just joined the virtual Carrier Airwing Three organization. I have a problem I hope you can solve for me. I have never nor do I know how to Gmax or any other program. I can do all kinds of repaints. I have in fact done a bitmap of a scimitar prop from a photo, but when I replace the prop.bmp in the texture,it won't appear on the aircraft just all black 4 blade props. I believe that is because the model file was not modified which I have NO CLUE how to do. Have you ever done an updated prop for the E2C which they ALL now have or could your studio? Your E2C is the only one ever done and I know a lot of guys would love to have it. I am sure it would be widely and enthusiastically accepted for both FD5 and FD6 owners. Thank you for your time.

We are no longer in touch with the authors of that aircraft I believe. Massimo Taccoli did a version of older versions of Flight Deck, but I think Flight Deck 5 has a new version from a Engin Piskin, formerly from Area51Sim.com (under new management now though).
Aside from decompiling the aircraft, I have no other way to determine the construct of the prop. It appears as though it was not created in the normal manner.

It sounds like you need to modify the alpha part of the texture. You can do this in DXTbmp program. Just keep in mind that since its not an FSX aircraft you will have possibly other problems like glass and such.

Antonio Diaz did several repaints for the Abacus Hawkeye from Flight Deck 5 and 6. Go to www.flightsim.com search function and type in Antonio Diaz. He has 52 pages of various repaints. Go to page 11 and the second entry is the first one of several for the Hawkeye; just keep scrolling down. You might contact him directly to see what he did with the props to work in FSX.

Best, Paul

On that note they may say FSX, but these are actually made for FS9 models ported over. Hoping the WIP model is coming along, both models (C-2/E-2) are needed in FSX.

The aircraft has been modified so that all the glass works perfectly in FSX by Abacus. I have already by suggestion made the background transparent (black) and added an alpha channel that Abacus sent. We can get a spinning (blurry) prop fine. It is the static four bladed prop that is part of the model file. See their reply. It needs to be decompiled and redrawn as an 8 bladed scimitar prop.

His several entries for the Hawkeye are squadron repaints, not any prop changes. I am painting VAW-126 for myself very successfully IMHO. The props are the problem. I went through all his addons and they are really nice but no help.

Looks like you are close to the proverbial brick wall. There is no legal software to decompile a model file (copyright issues). You need the original source code to make your desired changes to the prop. From what Abacus has told you regarding the original designers I don't think you will ever see it.

Best, Paul :dizzy:

I've had issues when using this E-2 with ArrCab. When launched, the aircraft does a wheely down the catapault and is uncontrollable for a second after leaving the deck.

Just an FYI.
