FSX Auster Autocat uploaded

Been Austering this weekend and so to wrap up what people have been going on about in this thread took a number of photos to help illustrate the points raised and then found others of items that have been discussed. Hope they are of interest to some.

Hi Martin, that airfield at first thought, Compton Abbas, (what a nice airfield! ) but on closer inspection it is not an airfield I know.

I take it the mirror is for the compass?

The airfield is Eggesford in North Devon, home to 16 Austers. Compton Abbas is flat ontop of a hill and well Eggesford is on three hills.......up, down, up, down and hopefully up at the end.

Yes the mirror is for the compass!!

Thanks, but the search is not working at Avsim and to be frank (despite being an associate of Avsim), I have not used the library since the crash. It seems pretty poor nowadays, the recent files and search no longer work for me.

Should have seen it before we left. And I thought a bit of bird poop falling on you was good luck. With what we had, we had all the luck in the world. Thats the only problem with sharing your hangar with lots of swallows. You wash your aeroplane after you go flying of course as it sometimes is covered in mud, but now at this time of the year you have to do it before you take off too! :)

As everyone on this thread, I think this is one of the greatest releases in FSX in a long time. Especially as freeware. What a marvelous piece of work!

Unfortunately, as a real "dead reckoning" VFR pilot, solely relying on compass, map and stopwatch for naviagtion, I can't seem to be able to use the compass on the cockpit floor. I am pretty sure that the dial is printed the wrong way. It shows North and South correctly, but not the other courses. Can someone confirm or correct me?

I have googled back and forth on this and not found anything. Any help so that this fine bird is made perfect for "low and slow" VFR flying?

The compass works like the real aircraft, I am sure Dave G will pop along and explain it (I have forgotten!:sleep:) again, on the actual aircraft it is read through a mirror, something FSX cannot replicate. I never fly her out of sight of the VFR area (photoscenery) I know, like the back of my hand.
 
The compass is correct for the type modelled.
To use, rotate the bezel until the guidelines align with the needle, which is pointing North. The heading is then indicated by the lubber line.

thanks a lot for the quick reaction. I had a feeling that the error was on my side. That plane's compass adds a lot of workload for the pilot if it requires him to set the compass bezel everytime he wants to read the heading. Dead reckoning and flying an aircraft in difficult weather is hard enough without having to fumble on a dial attached to the floor every couple of seconds. Amazing concept!

Can someone tell em where I can find Banabob's repaints? I tried the site where he was ptting paints up but the files are no longer available.

Yea Bob has all but disappeared. He was financially in very poor shape and the future did not look good for him at all. Quite a few people have tried to contact him and as far as I know, no one has had any luck getting through to him. His site was closed some time ago, even the things he had uploaded on SOH were taken down.

I don't know of anyone who has them available any more.:salute:
