FSX controllers

LouP

Flight Sim Junkie
So here I am still waiting for mey new PC  so I can install FSX and am trying to get the set-up I want straight in my mind. I have different sets of controllers that I use depending on the type of flying. I have a complete set of helicopter controls for my helos and a bunch of CH equipment for all of my other flying. FS9 never did seem to like having multiple controls set up at once where two controls would do the same thing (a yoke and cyclic for example) as there seemed to be some confusion as to what should be the controller at the moment. So in FS9, I had set up two seperate cfg files to overcome this problem. :kilroy:

So my question is how does FSX handle multiple controllers? Is it OK if I have more than 1 controller set up at a time or will I need to set up seperate cfg files again in FSX.

Thanks,
LouP :wiggle:

Apparently FSX is fine with dual controls as I have a CHPro Throttle and Logitech 3DPro Twist Grip Joystick. I actually use those in FS9 as well and never have had any problems with FS9 asking "which is which".

I've got a whole slew of controllers hooked up at once, too. The secret to avoiding input conflicts is to use FSUIPC to set up controller profiles, and assign the axes and buttons through there instead of in FSX. I've been doing it that way for ages with no problems.

Hey Bill,

Interesting. I know that FSUIPC can be used for specific aircraft but is there also a way to set up the inputs for "types" of aircraft (helos vs. fixed wing) or did you assign the controls on an aircraft by aircraft basis?

It sure would make life easier if I could set it up based on type of aircraft.

Thanks,
LouP

Yes it can, Lou. This is something I requested from Pete Dowson a while back, and to my surprise he wasted no time in implementing it. In the latest version of FSUIPC, there's a facility called controller profiles. I've got several; GA Yoke, GA Stick, Jet Yoke, Fighter, Twin Engine Recip, etc. They are all set up to use whatever controller axes and buttons are approproiate for that kind of bird. When you go to the FSUIPC axis assignments for a given plane, you can tick the "Use Profile" box, and it'll give you the list of profiles you've pre-configured. Just select the right one an voila! You're off and flying.

Most awesome, thanks Bill. I am really Looking forward to getting Plum Island as that is in my neck of the woods and have been there quite a bit for real. Glad to see an alternative to Sim Market for the purchase.
