FSX Douglas C-117D Skytrooper

Not if you actually want to go somewhere in a reasonable amount of time. :blind: :icon_lol:

And these days, find fuel. I love reciprocating engines and big props, but turbo-props and jets are faster and you can find Jet-A everywhere, it's not as easy to find 100LL these days. That being said, the C-117D and the promise of an improved C-47 are sooooo tempting.

Based on the C-47 startup and different smoke effects for this model. Actually the startup sounds are from the LAC C-117D video.

That looks and sound terrific TuFun, I forgot and left my buttkicker switched on and when the engine fired up it made the hair stand up on the back of my neck.:jump::jump::jump:

How long before we can have this sound and effects for the C117?

regards

Bruce.

I emailed Gary Jones to see if I can use his soundset with my mods. He used some of the default DC3 sounds, so if all else I can try to do the same treatment if I don't here from him.

Must be a warm engine, a first start usually cough and farts a bunch more with accompanying smoke cloud. Very nice, the best I have seen in FS

Especially when one sets for awhile. Don't fully understand the smoke effects code, just experimenting with different numbers at the moment. The default effects is pretty smokey.

Same with the sound effects. With those short open pipes, it sure sounds different than a DC3. More similiar to a Wild/Hellcat fighter aircraft.

Stupid Super DC-3 with its stupid beefed up engines. Way too much fun to fly. Way. Too. Much!

Also, fictional paints.

In case anyone is still looking for alternative sounds, try dc3sndpk.zip on Avsim by Des Braban. It's said to more resemble the later R-2000s than the early R-1820s.

Just wondering if other people have the sound of the fuel pump running? The only way to stop is to turn the fuel pump off but that kills the engines.

I replaced the fuel pump sound with this one. Found at Avsim Library...

A way around this is to remove the 'fuel_pump.wav' file [not at the flight sim computer, so that may not be the exact file name - confirm first] from your FSX 'Sounds' folder. Store it in a safe place.

Start-up sounds and maybe more on both aircraft. Just in case you haven't seen the video over at the DC3/C-47 post.
These are subjective, since every aircraft I've listen to are different.
