FSX EE Lightning from the fs9 Alphasim & cab file problem

I downloaded the files for the portover of the EE Lightning to fsx.
One of them is EELightningsPack2Distr.zip, and in order to make the F2A Lightning, one has to make a cab file.
I tried 2-3 programs, including Cabdir.exe from the FSX SDK, and the files I made do not work--I have no gauges. I managed to convert the bmp's to dds's though. But the cab file beat me.

The Readme says:

3) Add the contents of the CAB directory to your EELightning(2).CAB file (cabdir.exe from the SDK required - if not available, just put them in a directory in your panels folder and re-reference the panel.cfg file.

I assume the name of the new cab must be [EELightning(2).CAB] or am I wrong?
And then in that cab directory there are two folders, named "60" and "1024". Are these 2 folders to be included in the cab file?

It would have been much easier if the maker of the file included the cab file, ready for those who download it. It is never too late and it will help a lot.
Or, perhaps, it can be uploaded as an aid to the simmers who download the mod.

For the conversion to dds (of the bmp files) I used Martin Wright's [convimx] tool which converts them as a batch--all done with two mouseclicks. That saved me from converting them one by one and it worked.

The way I did it.

Used 7Zip on the original EELightning(2).CAB file and extracted all of the files to a new folder on my desktop. I called that folder EELightning(2)

I then pasted in all the new files from the patch CAB folder into this new EELightning(2) folder.

Then I opened the folder that Cabdir.exe resides (in the FSX SDK folders) and dragged the EELightning(2) folder onto it, it automatically created a new EELightning(2).cab file. That is the one you use.

Hope that helps. :)

Ps. Inside the patched EELightning(2).cab should be two folders and 573 other files.

Thanks Darrent,

I will follow all the steps you took to the letter and see if it works.

I used another way to get around the problem and got some the gauges to show: I made a folder named A and made a cab file out of it, named A.cab, and put all the gauges the mod gives it in it, then I added all gauges manually though FS Panel Studio, referencing to A.cab. That took care of most of the gauges, though I am still adding gauges to Virtual Cockpit window 08 anf have many more VC windows to do. If your advice works, it will save me a lot of more work.

That said, the makers of the mod could have provided us with a ready-made cab and I think they were negligent here. And though the thread concerns them, they have not even replied yet.

Will report back on it.

Darrent,

I did as you said and made the cab file and it all works okay. My cab file has a few more files than yours--581 in fact, and includes two folders--named 640 and 1024, with 4 files in each one of these two folders. In the number 581 those 8 files of the two folders are included.

The F3 verson virtual cockpit looks different than that of F2A version--somewhat simpler and more diffuse--wth less detail, I mean.
I attach a screenshot of it so you may tell me if your VC looks the same or similar.

Thanks again.

Nick
