FSx Essex AI Carrier CV-10 WWII 1944, who want's it ?

Charter Member 2012
Gents, a quick (ha !) compilation of the CV-10 for FSx, cat and trap and hard deck, basic colors, sorry had a lot of problems with the texture vertice errors, a long and complicated yarn and ultimately boring, but had to loose some details, will get back this after work tomorrow, but for the mean time I need someone to grab this and post in the downloads section at SoH, I really need my bed !!.

I'll add some more details like deck markings but only as basic colored parts, the full textured rendition will take much longer and todays errors mean that a lot is going to have to be rebuilt much leaner, but this basic model is 'FREE' for anyone to use as freeware for AI such and just another carrier in sim, aint much to look at but hopefully it'll appease some folks until its finally finished.

So first PM with an offer to post to SoH files gets a copy, please make it quick, time is short and bed is close, sorry for the rush but I am really knackered :(.

I'm wonderin if anyone has pm Michael yet?? If not, I can try to upload it for ya

Might have gotten many PM's.... who really is the obvious choice though when it comes to Navy ships in FSX......hehehehehe.:d

I can do a writeup with some background history for it and put in some notations for this being a first version of a future release.

Always a joy to see a master craftsman's work. :jump:

Outstanding!!! I was going to pm you - but all my "cred" is FS9, so I'd not be able to able to explore it fully like the real masters here.

Just wanted to say thanks - looking forward to whatever later incarnations it may take.

Best regards,

DL

Just 1 PM, Crashaz will do the honors, I'm sorry about the timing, it was already late and I had an early start at work, which kind of puts me out of the loop for the next four days, just wanted something up for the weekend so that people could play, it is work in progress so some updates in the future for this freeware rendition. The full blown fully textured model will not be free I'm afraid, but hopefully this is good enough for freeware for the time being.

OK 2 things to do today.

Get Essex thru builders trials... and released.

P-61 mesh

Thanks again Michael! :wavey:

Many thanks to Mr. M for this! Almost can't wait! But have to....

BTW the P-61 has about the best exterior I have seen... and is a sweet flier, I tour about in in on ocassion.

Cheers: T

Working on P-61 mesh tonight... will have Essex calling on station tommorrow!

Just a quick update, managed to squeeze in some time to enhance the model with some deck markings and such, managed to claw back some of the 20mm weapons but not all, the mesh still needs more fettling to get it where I want it with regards to parts visible and supplied, some hanger doors hopefully this week in an update.

Crashaz has the revised mdl with the current changes in, so hopefully it'll drop straight into his set up before it gets uploaded, once uploaded we'll sort some sort of method of updating out, maybe a thread where I can post the files and people just collect and insert themselves ?.

Best

Michael

nice

thank you for the free model. it's looks very accurate. i will gladly pay for the completed version.

Crashaz will be posting up the complete package, he's very busy at the moment, if its not up in a few days I'll tend to it as I'm off work for a few weeks so have spare time. Crashaz took it on because I was busy at the time, though it seems he's as busy as me at the moment LOL.

If posted, where is this hiding, not finding it yet?

Thanks Michael!

Yep...working on it right now.

For the first route for this carrier will be using Task Force 77's position on Aug 6th 1950 in support of the Pusan perimeter.

I suuuurrrre could use a certain Korean war era jet right now to test the cats and traps... ahem....*cough* *cough* Vertigo *cough*. :d

You know... to make sure that the *cough* jet lines up all right and everything. *cough*

If your going to make a Korean route you'd be better off with the Korean model I have, Boxer or Leyte should take significantly less time to get in sim than Yorkown as they are not camo'd, simple color swatches and basic marked decks can be done in a few hours.

I do intend to release the Korean era one in the same cut down format as Yorktown very shortly, probably Thurs or Fri. I only need to add the vertically rising gate style JBD, I think its either the Essex or Midway class that had gated JBDs that were in line with the cat when retracted and when lifted fully up rotated 90 degrees to block engine exhaust, may even have been early Forrestal class, will need to check that.

The current Yorktown scheme and fit is Sept 44 so a more apt region and time period would tbe the support of the landings at Luzon in Nov 44 and Jan 45, this would be Air Group 3 consisting of VF-3, VH-3 and VT-3, for the record the Captain was Thomas S Combs USN.

Two great moments this summer for me ....

In July, this happened on my 40th birthday ....

and in August ....

Not many things make one giddy like a kid any more ... this is certainly doing the trick!

Seriously - will it be Accel-ready? I'm most will be happy to wait if it'll mean ensuring this .... especially for getting those jets off the boat! :)

THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU!

Yes it will be accel ready, cat and trap.

Just to remind you, its not a full blown rinky dink baked texture model, it is almost the full model detail wise but the textures are basic swatches, people wont be able to repaint or weather, there just authentic carriers of the period for people to play with until I finally finish them.

I think and hope they will suit those that prefer freeware, call them a 'lite' copy of the full product, possibly even trialware ?.

I am running up against the compiler buffer with textured parts on these ships, they are very poly heavy and even just low tech swatches is breaking the limit, full blown 2048 or 4096 will cause the compiler to have seizures LOL, so I really need to re configure the mesh and optomize it, certainly most of the gallery decks will need drastic overhauling and I need to rethink some build techniques, in short the final rendition will need a rebuild (this'll be the third time) to extract the most from the compiler and give the best visual bang you can.

I hope they are taken as intended and not something they were never intended to be.

It has some awesome detailing. :salute:

Readme is done... will be sent to you Michael for final review.

We should just hold off releasing until we get a Korean version then.

I have a path setup for Korea.... gives me time to make one for Task Force 58 routing around Luzon and Formosa (Taiwan).

FYI...cats and traps confirmed working... landed in an SBD... cat shots with Foxtrot 18.
