FSX Extreme: DX10 / Core i7

I think it reduced it some. My biggest issue is the fences, nav lights and a few other silly things. I just wish it would all get fixed :( I can actually run Manhattan with a good FPS with DX10. Without, it is barely worthwhile to keep it installed.

Can someone please give us a link for this download? I've been over at MS and the latest DX they offer is 9.0c.
 
I have Vista32 SP1 installed. I have also downloaded and installed the latest DX shown above and as you see it refers to version 9.26.

I've seen no difference in FSX under DX10 with the above download.

I understood that when installing Vista SP1 you were also getting directx10.1. I wonder if this is the latest version or there is any new one after that that you're refering to.
 
Windows will (should rather) let you know if there are any further updates. You can always check Windows Updates as well.

It was Cazzie who reported the improvement in the "New DirectX" topic, you even replied to him in that topic. Best would be to ask him ?

Thanks Daube.

Cazzie indeed explained that it is included in the latest Directx download from MS mentioned in this thread. Both DX9 and DX10 files are updated. I installed it but it did not help the flickering in my install. I wonder if it depends on the GPU and drivers.
 
Bear in mind that in order to fully utilise the features of DX10.1 you will need a compatible card. ATi are the only gpu manufacturers that make fully compatible cards for this version (different Shader technology afaik).
 
You mean that Nvidia 9xxx series do not? I have a 9600GT512 and it is supposed to be DX10 compatible. But as you're saying they do not take full advantage of DX10 features?
 
The Nvidia cards are DX10 capable and are not fully DX10.1 (which came about after the release of Vista SP1). For DX10.1 features to be fully utitised both the software (ie game) and hardware ( ie card) must support it. FSX isn't a DX10.1 game platform as far as i'm aware.

Screw DX-10 Not sure why they ever released it, but DX-11 ( windows 7 native) makes DX-10 totally useless.. The difference is in orders of magnitude, so if you dont want windows 7 then just wait for dx-11s release..

In order to run DX11 you'll need a DX11 capable card,which aren't available yet,Windows 7 and the game will need to be a DX11 platform (which FSX isn't nor won't be).
 
Well after much struggle with DX10 I could not overcome the flickering runways. As much as I liked the increased frame rates, water effects and the cockpit shadows I could not stand being on approach and have the runway flickering on me.

So I took the plunge and gone to DX9 but followed Nick Needham's tweaking guide (including Nhancer setum) to the letter. Most of you know this but for those who don't its here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041&PN=1

I also applied the external frame rate limiter with a cap of 30 fps. Well I must say that now with 8x AA and 16x AF the picture is crystal clear, the trees shimmer a lot less, and the sim is behaving flawlessly and very smooth. I rarely ever go below 20 FPS in city areas with autogen one click from max. I also had to give up on bloom but that's OK.

Now, I fly a lot over sea water and like to have it as real as it gets. In my last real flight last Sunday I was observing the sea water surface on a relatively calm day. I must say that the reflections and animation rendered by DX10 were a bit on the extreme side. I went through all the themes offered by REX and found that the "No1" theme was the most suitable, at least for my taste and my area. I'm quite happy now with the water appearance with DX9.

I'll try posting a video soon. Unless something new happens to DX10 or nvidia drivers, I'm staying with DX9.

Q6600 OC'd to 3.0Ghz (best tweak so far thanks to Ted (txnetcop):applause:)
4GB RAM 667
Nvidia Geforce 9600GT512
2x650 WD Sata drives
Vista Home Premium 32

Thats what they say at least. They also say theres no difference between SP-2 and acceleration..
I would request you go back to page 1 and re look at the pics i posted. the bad ones are dx-10 the good ones ( the goose) are windows 7 without dx-10 enabled. the only differences oherwise is the OS. Now, i certainly dont know all the particulars about dx-10 or 11 but, from visual evidence, i find it highly compelling to believe that dx-11 does run on dx-10 capable cards and produces some outstanding graphics.
 
Some parts of DX11 are compatible with older 9.0 and 10.0 /10.1 compatible cards. The big features such as shader model 5.0 and hardware tessellation will require new graphics cards.

DX10/10.1 was always intended as an interim release, and they mentioned a long time before it was released that 10.1 would introduce new things that would require a new card, simply put a DX 10 card doesn't support all of the features of 10.1. ATI are the only company to produce a 10.1 compatible card, Nvidia quite rightly haven't bothered given how close DX11 is and how absolutely nothing thus far has yet utilised DX10.1 and won't until DX11 compatible cards start shipping and DX11 is released.
