FSX Freezes When Saving In The Main Menu

Hi all

I'm tying to create a flight plan for a flight. However, when I go to save the plan, FSX freezes. This is the same when trying to change settings. It doesn't happen ingame though. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Aaron

The only thing I can think of is to right click on the FSX.exe file bringing up the properties and opt to run it as administrator.

Hi Aaron,

Never heard of this problem but can I ask - have you recently installed Garmin GNS software?

Had a swift Google and found this:

Have you tried renaming your fsx.cfg file?

If you need more help we need more helpful info... Such as:

How long has this been happening?
Are you using Win 7 with UAC on?
Is FSX installed to default location?
Is your Documents folder in the default location?
Can you load a flight?

Let us know how you get on.

It has been happening for the past couple of days. I run windows 7 with UAC. FSX is in the default location as is the documents folder. I can load a free flight nut I can't create the flight plan for it due to FSX freezing as soon as I press ok or save.

This is a new one on me.... hope you get it sorted Aaron!

Rename fsx.cfg to anything you like. Like fsx_config_backup_8-3-12 for example.

When you next run FSX it will rebuild a brand new fsx.cfg from scratch. The file you renamed [as above] will remain untouched of course and you can if necessary simply delete the new fsx.cfg and rename the original fsx.cfg again and all your settings will return as if by magic!

** NOTE ** you will loose some of your FSX configuration settings [like modified / additional control inputs, tweaks, options, scenery settings etc. you may have made] unless you make a backup of the original fsx.cfg as above.

May just cure your problem.

Just a thought, but Windows Vista and Win7 security controls can play havoc with games and sims when installed in the default C:\Program Files directory.

I have deleted my fsx.cfg file previously so FSX would rebuild one. I stopped the crashing at menus like settings however it still crashes when saving a flight plan.

I couldn't run FsX with UAC on. I have since run my Vista 32 bit (5 years now) without UAC wagging its finger at me every time I want to edit something.
