FSX Installation Problems

My FSX installation was a mess. So I deleted it all and went to put in a new copy and got this message:
"1607 Unable to install shield scripting runtime"
So I'm unable to put in a new copy of FSX. Has anyone had this type of error and how they corrected it?

I'm sorry but I don't know how you, "Just flight link to this MS support document:"
I don't know how to flight link to the MS Support Docment. I'm using Vista, does that make a difference?

Link with info to an M$ support page

HD,

Roger just posted a link to a page with support info from Microsoft themselves.

Follow the instructions and you'll be just fine!

I right clicked on everything on the page with no results. What did I do wrong? Why can't I just load the FSX program in my machine?
This is too complicated for me.

Wait just a sec...

HD

am I reading this correctly, you "deleted it all" instead of uninstalling?

BTW, the instructions on the M$ page aren't at all difficult.

Helldiver this is the instructions on the MS help page
==================================

Method 1: Rename the Installshield folder

<script type="text/javascript"> loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); </script>
  1. In Windows Explorer or in My Computer, open the following folder: <var>DRIVE</var> \Program Files\Common Files\
  2. Right-click the Installshield folder, and then click Rename.
  3. Type Installshield1, and then press ENTER.
  4. Again try to install the game. If the problem continues to occur, go to the next method.
Method 2: Download and install the latest Windows Installer package

<script type="text/javascript"> loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); </script>To install the latest Windows Installer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=120486 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=120486)

Good luck

Jetstreamguy, it worked. Thanks a lot. What I want to know what caused it in the first place or is just one of Vista's oddities that we have to live with?

I think it may have been uninstalled incorrectly..It had to many entries in the regestry perhaps still left behind.....

Not real sure though...

Glad it worked out good for you Helldiver.

I think installshield is a program dedicated to the business of installing software in general not just Flightsim. It looks like that application got corrupted somehow, probably nothing to do with flightsim itself. Anyway, by following the steps you have bypassed the problem as it created a new version when flightsim was reinstalled.

Happy flying
