So the correct path is:
C:\documents and Settings\ User\Application Data\ Microsoft\ FSX.cfg
- for those who don't like shortcuts.

it is if you documents and settings folder is on disk c , i myself moved it to a different partition .
 
I've just tried this tweak, and it genuinely does work. I have a very low end PC in terms of using FSX ( Pentium-4 3.2MHz, 1 Gb Ram, Nvidia Geforce 6600, Windows XP) but flying Aerosoft's Beaver around MegasceneryX: Hawaii was smooth as silk, albeit at the default settings. I wonder what the downside is ? There just has to be one.

By the way, for anyone still trying to find the relevant folder and file, make sure you have 'Show hidden files and folders' enabled. To do this go to Windows Explorer, click on Tools, then click on View tab and you'll see it straight away. ( If this is disabled, you won't find FSX.cfg even using Windows Explorer's search tool. )

I say try and see what's best for you. I use 80 myself. I've see some uses with a value up to 350 that works for them. I think it's a lot to do with your RAM timings.
So find the sweet spot for you. :kilroy:
 
I tried 10 and it stuttered..

I am smooth as silk at default 40 though...I was just checking to see...

Ever since I droopped the X2 card on my big rig it has been just great flying....Now using a 3850 and loving FSX more than ever on this OCed 3.6 E8600...:bump:

The HD4870 is fine but the HD4870X2 is a bit quirky with FSX...fantastic in all the other games. In fact I have a BFG GTX285 OC that was given to my by TechCorp for my birthday, and I like my old HD4870 better. Not as fast, I dropped 5 fps overall, but much prettier graphics in all games and very smooth.

I got the Saffire 4870 and I must admit that FSX is a bit of a hit and miss affair. And like you said it's brilliant for all other games. I can't wait for ARMA 2 to be released via Steam. Apparently it's the best for the job.

By the way I want to upgrade my Q9400 (OCed at 3.3 GHz). Should I still wait a bit?

And thats what I do most.....



Nothing wrong with your Q9400 IMO....I'm finding that any dual is just as well suited for FSX as a quad if its matched with the other components well... Unless you run all the heavies and Tripple Head To Go and such, then I think the quad outweighs a dual core...

But I just GA fly myself with FEX GEX UTX ...
 
To find the line in the config file faster and automatically;
* Open 'FSX.cfg' in Windows Notepad
* Select Control/F to bring up Find window
* Type in texture_bandwidth and hit Enter

It should then go right to the line you need.

Now, I could be wrong, but I think (think) you have to add 'texture_bandwidth.... to your FSX Config file. I know you had to with FS9. It might be the same here. In which case, go to the correct section and add the entry. I would start out at 10 and work your way up. Once it stops being smooth, you have gone to far, go back a notch or 3...

I think this works on our computers Bill is because they are super fast and need to be throttled, LOL :monkies:
