FSX Meteor NF.14 en route ...

Just saw this on Britsim:

Rob's latest offering is the Armstrong-Whitworth Meteor NF14 he has already given us a few screenies
of the work in progress and allowed us to show you folks whats coming. The Meteor NF14 was the last of the line
bascially the NF11 two seat night fighter with a blown canopy rather than the framed T7 canopy it served unti
replaced by its younger brother the Javelin.
It already looks a jewel, made for FSX,SP2, Acceleration it will make a handsome addition to anyones hangar.
He has also mention the possibilties of a series release with an NF11,Mk8 and PR9 version as well as prehaps the prone piloted
Mk8.

Full size pics on their site!

Would love to see the single seaters, esp the FR models - let's hope. But like his other releases (Vampire, Hornet/Sea Hornes, I'm sure the'll be a delight!!)

Sorry - I meant the Mel - I had general Majestic-class carriers on the mind.

Looks phenomenal - just superb!

Do you plan to package it with a Skyhawks pack, or could one buy it on its own? Here's a thought: a separate pack with one model, and three texture sets: HMCS Bonaventure, HNLMS Karel Doorman, and the Veinticinco de Mayo. Charge a lower price (say $10 -$15) and you'll get some incremental business from folks who mightn't have gone for the Skyhawk set in question.

Just a thought. OK - I've taken two threads OT - sorry!

Great news on the meteor and the carrier can't wait for both, but where's robs Attacker I was really hoping we'd get to have that at some point too!

I don't see any mention of the Attacker anywhere on the Britsim forums - so I have no idea. I'd enjoy an Attacker immensely too. That said, a guy trying to launch 2 or 3 models, AND have some sort of life and career, etc gets my respect and appreciation - who am I to place demands on his time? Not trying to be a moralist - just trying to put it all in perspective.

:ernae:

Back to the Meteor, from certain angles (wing-planform excepted), it reminds me a miniaturized CF-100 Canuck ... no surprise, I guess, in that both were intended as all-weather interceptors, and both launched at roughly the same period.

My sense is this model won't be too long in coming - and it looks superbly done.

dl

Its odd you should mention the Canuck
My father who started as an apprentice for Glosters worked on BOTH aircraft first on the Meteor NF11 and then on a certain CF100 that was the test bed for the Velvet Glove weapons system
for the CF105. when he returned to Glosters he would regularly motor from Brockworth to Coventry to do bits and pieces on the NF14 (the interesting curving fairings on the tail were his, in an attempt to solve the problem of Dutch Roll and to strengthen the Mk8 tail which had a habit of departing the aircraft at the most inopportune time). And as to the Attacker....Rob had handed it over to someone else to finish the RATOG mountings and effect...the other party has been tied up with some real world projects so thats why you havn't seen the Attacker yet.

Leif

Thanks alot for the info Leif and yes it does remind me of the CF100 too from certain angles and by all accounts the CF100 was a great aircraft that gave amazing service and was well loved by it's crews for being reliable and having exceptional range for it's time!

That would be incredible. If someone were to offer HMCS Bonnaventure, preferably with the green deck, I would consider buying it twice out of gratitude! hehe.

I have had a painting of 3 Banshees flying over a green decked Bonnie for years and recreating that in Flight Sim is an unrealized dream so far...

a few more screens ...

Development seems to be going apace ... some screens from Britsim .... Go Rob Go!!!

Who needs camo if you're testing circuitry, right? :)

Aren't we blessed to have guys like this contributing ... I think so!

That looks beautiful!

I was going to post a question, asking about the difference between the "Whitworth" Meteor, and the "Gloster".

Thanks to the technology of the internet, I easily found this:

"Because of the increased demand, F.4 production was divided between Gloster and the Armstrong Whitworth factory at Baginton."

Sorta like when the demand for Willys jeeps became overwhelming, Ford started making them too!

Indeed - this occurred in the US aircraft industry too during WWII, with high-demand aircraft like the the B-24, for which Consolidated contracted Ford and Douglas to build aircraft for them, Vought got Goodyear and Brewster to build Corsairs, etc.

Glosters and Armstrong Whitworth were all part of the Hawker group even during world war two, The Glosters factory at Brockworth built Hurricanes, Typhoons and Tempests during the war, The Meteor contrary to all you will read was actually developed and built at Bentham, Glosters shadow factory about 8 miles NE of the main factory and the development flying was done at Moreton Valence where a Bell Airacomet was based so the RAF could compare the two.

Sorry to bump this up
But just posted two more screen shots of Peter Watkins paints for Rob's Meteor at Britsims facebook site -- one is a 25 Sqdn aircraft (The OC's mount actually) and the other is an A&AEE
chase aircraft painted all yellow. Take a look - Robs getting closer with the model.

Leif

Just a couple of things remember this is for FSX/SP2/Acceleration and you might wish to grad Neville's Derwent sound to go with it when it comes out.
