FSX Native B-26 Marauder Goes "Gold"

Been working on this one for awhile when somehow I lost (all layers were flattened into one) for the front fuselage. So I lost all my
previous nose art for the released paints I've done and for a few that were just about done. I also did not have a backup which I
usually have for all my paintkits. But as they say "Life goes on" so I started over with which was the lucky part of this whole mess.
The file was saved with this nose art and no weathering layers activated. This is where it stands now, still have weathering to do and
I'm not sure if the extra stripe on the wings and fuselage was done in OD or black. My research is inconclusive as some modelers show
it both ways and any wartime photos are in black/white so it is hard to tell. I might release with both options and let the end user have
the choice. What do you guys think?

Man, Joe, it must be in the water! In another post I mention I blew away one of the wings I was working on for Ole Smokey! Not near as much work lost as what was in your fuselage textures, plus I still had the left wing, identical except for the star and bar placement!

Nice work on the BHB. If yoy include both Black and O.D, I would use the OD.

Thanks Milton And Steve. I still can't figure out how I saved the file not only flattened but as a PSD file.
I always save the file first (which is as a psd file) then to flatten it, then to "Save As" a 32 bit bmp file.
It was a lot of work gone (file was just over 200 mb in size) but it could have been my work on the AI
B-26 which is everything on one texture sheet when flattened. That would have stung really hard as I
have 4 squadrons from one group (391st) and all the stock paints redone from the original d/l. I will be
releasing those paints as soon as I find the time to do a new traffic file.

I know exactly how it happens to me and I still let it happen!

I go thru the same process you described. After a long session of save/merge all (flatten)/save as, I'll get distracted by thinking ahead about what the next item to paint/correct/tweak is, then on the SAVE AS step, instead of SAVE AS, I do a SAVE! Now, at that point I'm still OK if I catch it before I close it because I can UNDO to get the layers back. If I don't catch it then it becomes a merged and flattened PSP! Goodbye hours upon hours of work! What a sinking feeling. If I were a drinking man I'd have become an alcoholic by now!

Oh I've done that, but I always catch it before I close it out. But the sad part is I know I didn't do that this time but I guess I did.:dizzy:
The part that hurt was when I went back in after dinner and cleaning that I realized that I had done that. (this was last Friday)
I didn't touch PS until yesterday when I decided that I would start over. The good thing is the file had the the last step I had done
so it was just taking it from there to get it to where (the pics) it is now. I did have to setup the layers in groups as that makes it
easier for me to turn off stuff while I paint.

Those recent paints look fantastic. I'm in the middle of a move from one house to another, so, I will be around very sporadically. But, I try my to check in and see the progress on you superhero's painting the Marauder. I'm taking a break from packing up stuff and watching Dark Matter on Netflix. The runabout/shuttle in the show is called the Marauder, so, I had to check in on the thread.
Thanks again for making so many great repaints!

To all of the repainters/texture artists here, you know who you are, thanks for all of your work. I can't believe how many great B-26 paint schemes I can fly now. :)

Hear! Hear! Some of the very best I've seen for this kind of aircraft. Amazing artistry :applause:

Multiplayer issue

Hey, I love these models but my friends and I have issues with these (a-20 also) where the airplane textures will constantly reload and refresh while flying and it cause our session to freeze for a second causing us to fall back and lose position. Any idea why this occurs? This happens when one or more of us fly these aircraft in an online session.

Not surprised here. These models are not intended or designed to be multiplayer packages.
They are too "heavy" in polys, textures, and high fidelity sounds to have many of the type in MP sessions.

Create a copy of these aircraft for MP use. Change names to isolate from full versions.
Use only one or two texture sets.
Re-size large textures and compress common and livery textures to 1024 DDS/DXT5 to make them more acceptable, and alias sounds to a sound package that is less intense in fidelity (default DC-3 as an example).
